Chat during online play

I use chat during online tournaments (if it's enabled) just to try and get some information out of other players (as well as inject some of my own) which I then try to use during play (possible bluffing etc).

Do you use chat or not? Do you fully disable it because it's distracting? I can type pretty fast so for me using chat even while in a hand isn't a problem. Chat during online play

Chat boxes from a variety of poker rooms varies in their implementation. On ACR, it doesn't work right now.

On BOL, their implementation is awesome. They have chat 'bubbles' pop up over the senders avatar. This is pretty cool, and allows you to talk some smack back and forth.

For the most part I don't do chat for goading or getting some advantage over a player. It is pretty much worthless, because most players ignore it.

I think chatt during a poker game is ok reason when other players want chatt then they can do it over team speak every time also ok

I don't really see much use in using the chatbox so I just ignore it except for commenting on the hand after the hand has taken place.

For me personally, I don't use it. I don't like to give any info, whether it be talking or showing hands.

I never use the chat function because its distracting and its full of non sensical chat that does not do much to help.

I turned off the chat long time ago and never looked back. I play poker for fun, and chat in online poker is not about laughs and relaxation but quite the opposite.

I don't think you can trust any information you glean from the other players and you may give away some information yourself. If this doesn't bother you and the typing doesn't distract you - go for it, especially if it adds to your enjoyment while playing. Chat during online play

I don't use it generally because I play quite a few tables and there's usually just complaining in the chat box anyways - oh poker players! Chat during online play

People tilt the crap out of me in the chat. I turn it off. No matter what.

and i LUV chat with people while playin, make friends
if it no fun or friendly - what the point?

I do chat at a live table and I love making people feel uncomfortable.... very +ROI, but you become a Ahole to most people... but i dont like to play poker with my friends so no worries

I turn chat off. If it's on sometimes I will let it influence my decisions or cause me to play more passively where I am afraid to make a mistake. Trash talk can also cause me to tilt where I want to get revenge and not play correctly because of it.

Agree, in Pokerstars few people chat, or they use it only to send an icon or a single phrase

I have seen many players who use the chat to be commenting every time a hand ends ... they wonder what hand each one was carrying ... and if they should have made a call or fold ... etc ... obviously I think they try get information from each other ... however I do not believe in such strategies since they could be lying to you ... also it seems to me that chatting constantly can deconcentrate it from the game ... I only use it to greet some known player and nothing more... !

what Kind of Information do you get in the Chat for a possible bluffing Chance against V?
'oh no, I missed my flushdraw' ? Chat during online play

I rarely use the Chat because for me it's kinda useless. I don't want to Chat while I Play and on pokerstars I'm usally on the 'info' tab instead of the Chat tab to see my Position in the Tournament and how far away I am from the Money.

If you want to get Information on your opponents, search them on sharkscope or pokerprolabs or take notes on their plays

I don't chat but keep an eye on it. It is an information game and why not see what is happening there.

Chat during the game is not needed. Distracts only. So I just turn it off

I talk a lot in general , so no surprise that I can chat quite a bit during a game, it just depends on the game and what's going on , some days there are great battles with great chat to go with it , makes the game more fun imo Chat during online play

I just recently disabled the chat bubbles completely, so unless I have my chat box opened I'm not gonna see whether someone said anything or not. That's answers the question I think Chat during online play

For me chat is distracting, and, although sometimes chatting can be very fun, still nothing good has come from me chatting yet. But bad things have happened - me being either distracted/ concentrating on a silly thing and not on what I should have been concentrated on had resulted to me doing dumb / fatal moves, or I perceived certain things in chat wrong and might have adjusted my play incorrectly.

Maybe I would have a different point of view if I could type in Russian (in certain rooms you can), but concentrating on Latin alphabet while thinking in Russian (transliterating) or translating to English in my head and then typing it is too much of an effort / distraction for something so insignificant.

I try not to be distracted by conversations while playing. More important to me is the focus on achieving the goals.

I do not use chat, because it focuses on the game. I can only send emoticons. Many people use chat to insult them.

Always fun to have some random chat with some random people around the world. Or at least watch some random conversations. The best part is the whinning of course.

In online poker I do not use chat during the game. Chatting distracts me from playing poker. Sometimes I turn on chat during CardsChat freerolls.

I think chatting is cool at the poker table because it makes the game more enjoyable. However when players become offensive to others I think that their chats should be disabled.

I enjoy chatting - especially with those players who are ultra aggro, but often times you can mellow them out or get the to TILT off by playing counterstrike kindness against them. IE
HIM - Shut up donk ATM
ME -Thank you - btw I love your avatar
HIM - Your a Freeroll Fish
ME - Yes I love fishing - my favorite is Flounder - what is yours?

Gets them so tilty --- and distracted!!!

As for sharing holdings - with good players - I always ask them what they think I had, to get some info out of them - to see where there mind is at. Giving info is another story. With good players - I give them leveled information IE
HIM show the bluff - or nice bluff
ME - If a set was a bluff - I guess I made a good bluff === when I bluff and it gets through.

HIM - I'm folding the best hand -
ME - Only if you can beat 4 of a kind.

If someone is acting mean - I will surely show a bluff to that person - setting him up for the next hand.

In our CC freerolls - I will often times show my cards and/or tell my holdings in chat if asked.
I like our CC community and hope everyone improves - ESPECIALLY ME - so sharing information in my mind is helpful and friendly.

Chat doesn't bother me at all - even is someone is being a complete aggro-fool. I do however get a little twixted by one-outer suckouts. Chat during online play

I use chat during the game, it does not distract me, but on the contrary it gives pleasure to communicate with other players

I only use to say nice hand or something like that, but I dont like to use a lot.

If I'm at a quiet table I'll use chat to say nice hand and that's about it.

When playing with people that like to chat I talk a bit with others but it doesn't reveal anything to my game at all. It's just a way to stay entertained while looking what's happening.

This is where I hate the chat. Especially when they donk you really good and then laugh or brag or whatever. But hey! That's the game also, to get into your opponents head and mess with them. But abusive chat behavior shouldn't be tolerated. I think most have a "reporting" tool though (honestly never looked for a reporting option ever). Chat during online play

I just don't chat. I don't know if you can really get a tell or information just by chatting. Its not like playing live where maybe you can pick up something

I am not the type of person to write in the tournaments chat, at this moment I try to think how a person can get information like this, I suppose it is comments about certain plays and that kind of things, I do not use the chat not to not to give information but I simply don't see the need, unless a person who knows write to me

I think it's best not to have distractions during the game, often chat during the game can distract you and you can make bad decisions.

Good question, I do not use it, sometimes they ask me coss and I avoid answering them, maybe I should change that in me and the chat use it as a tool to improve my game.
