Hi again, as you can see Im a newbie on posting but i've been reading (and learning hopefully) a lot so thank you to everyone who runs this place.

I've been playing SNGs on PP for a couple months and am wondering what % of the time a good player will cash. Also is there a level where the skill level rises dramatically?

Another thing is I seem to be snake bitten when holding AK lately (maybe it's psychological). Early on I typically raise 5X the BB, but when my A or K hits I believe about half the time (out of the last 7 or 8 times I've hit) a little pocket pair has hit trips or someone else has hit 2 pair. Am I not raising enough to chase them out or is this just a streak of bad luck?

I'm not familiar with the games at PP. Generally 5BB is a large raise pre-flop in online games.

This is especially true in an SNG, since starting stacks are usually not very deep in those games. A 5BB raise represents a relatively large percentage of your stack in an SNG, compared to a 5BB raise in a deep-stacked MTT.

As you indicate with your question about chasing hands out, one purpose of raising is isolation. The more callers we get, the more likely it is that one of them will have a hand that beats us.

When you raise with AK, how many callers are you typically getting? One or two is ideal in most circumstances. If you usually get more than two callers, then consider raising more than 5BB. Otherwise, you have probably just been unlucky.

P.S. It's very difficult to say what % of times a good player will cash in SNGs.

A good tight player will be more likely to have many minimum cashes.

A good loose player will typically cash less often, but will usually have more first place finishes than the tight player. So the good tight player wins more often, but the good loose player wins bigger prizes. Both are profitable.

The best way to measure success in SNGs is ROI (Return on Investment), which compares how much you have won to how much you have spent on entries. I don't really have an opinion on what is a good ROI, except that obviously positive ROI's are good!

need to work on your game to have the discipline not to despair, but the Internet is full of moaning and crying, the first rule is not to fall in love with AK is a strong hand preflop, but the flop is 789, if you showed aggression you can fold and not be afraid, second, if the table is aggressive, it is not to undermine the Bank , the opp will struggle and most important thing is not to despair, because everyone can't win, be sure , it's just a game

In 9-man SnG's I believe being I.T.M. 38% or better will make you a winning player.

As far as how hands are played, post some hand examples in the Tournament section of the forum. Be sure to post all relevant information (ie. stack sizes & table position of ALL the players on your table and then post hand up until the point of where you're needing to make a decision (so you don't get results-oriented comments)).

For SnG's have to you tried reading Collin Moshman's SNG Strategy book to help give you a solid foundation? (or Phil Shaw's book?)

gl on the tables & enjoy the journey!

Hey there, guys! Quite a nice topic to chat about, I've picked up SnGs as a way to build my bankroll as well and the only thing that's quite obvious for me now is that your income/profit is to be more than the money u've wated on entries. It's 100% info on how this should work:D Also my friend suggested me playing SnG with higher buy-in cause of time-money correlance topic. You may waste 4 hours of your life playing 0.25$ SnG just to win 1$. It'll be better to go and peform some cargo job:D if you talk about earning money, still there are higher risks on higher levels, u r to be ready to loose 5$ in a raw to hit big money once.;)
Any other opinions?
