As with low pairs, I know Ax suited have limited value and are mostly a drawing hand. With both, I know I should be playing for cheap from late position early in a tournament for the chance to rake a huge pot if the hand hits. And late in a tourney, with <15BB, its probably a fold against most EP raises, since its a big chunk of your stack to go drawing.

My question is, at what # of BB would you start playing Ax suited from, say, the button against an EP raise? At 20BB? 25? 30? I know it's going to depend on the opponent, effective stacks and other players in the hand, but in general, what is your threshold for playing these hands?

Thanks.

If I can limp in cheaply then any time from early to middle. From late position I might raise if I know my table. If I'm getting low on chip then I've started looking for a spot for at least 20BB shoves.
30BB= I'm going to pick a premium hand
25BB= I'm going to start thinking about who I can shove on.
20BB= My shoving range is wide open and I'm waiting for my spot and trying to avoid really big stacks.
15BB= Even wider range.
10BB= Any two will do

Depends on the stage also I would try to 3 bet pre flop, as Ax doesnt play good on the flop verybgood, and if you will get 4bet or shove , then fold

I don't really like palying with Ax but for me it depends on my game feeling and sometimes I would 3bet preflop or go all-in.

I'm looking to play this around 20-25 BB in a normal tournament. 30 minute level and such. (I play live). In other tournaments of 20 minutes or less I'm looking to definitely shove at 20ish BB. I've had about 50/50 luck with this situation. Of course you know the rest. Good luck and may the ace be in your favor

it's a shame when they throw the bad cards on the flop and the turn and river come to your victory:(

PKRNRS <- Couldn't agree more , Since you have the A blocker and the hand is suited even the A3s or A5s are fine for me. If you have a loose aggressor who opens from EP you can ftat and if you hit you can get paid really big. That's is my strategy for the early , middle stages.

But when I'm deep in a tournament with 15-20bbs i rarely flat with Weak Ax because most of the times another player will squeeze and I don't like the idea of bleeding chips. On the other hand I open in LP with Axs. But as you have already mentioned everything depends from the table dynamics!

There are others with experience on this to answer .But what I do , I only play them early on a tournament , late when I hab=ve big stack or middle stack +position +many callers , or to steal blinds .

Thank you for all the good advice on this. I have a habit of doing this when being the table chip leader drops to 3rd to lowest or even lower while waiting for a premium hand.
