Just caught wind of a new weekly tournament in the local poker room called a "button tournament." Apparently, the winner of each hand gets the dealer button.
Does anyone know what the strategy for this type of tournament would be? I'd assume you'd have to play extremely fast throughout because you'll never see the blinds coming and you don't want to get stuck in the late stages of the tournament with a medium stack suddenly facing multiple big blinds in a row.
I just thought it was an interesting format, and though I haven't played in it, I don't think I'm a fan. Table position is one of the few constants at the poker table and provides an advantageous opportunity to every player, regardless of the cards being dealt. This "button tournament" seems to link good cards and good position, introducing a new stroke of luck to the game and perhaps eliminating one opportunity for skillful play for card dead players, and card dead players are the ones that need position most!
Thoughts?
