OK I'm a poker novice in terms of bankroll management. I won some money playing nl holdem from a freeroll ($20) and in the last month I have played 3-4 hours a day and built my bankroll up to just over $1500.

I am playing mtt - 3 dollars or below super turbo.
While sngs - double or nothing 6 table 20 dollars.

I'm thinking about entering the 400k tournament tonight as its 200 buy in but would dent the bankroll. I'll prob just do a satellite and give it a shot through that.

What are the right buy in levels for a bankroll with $1500? for sng and mtt?

For MTT's over 200+ players; you'll need 200+buy-ins and probably 100 buy-ins for SnG's would be fine if you're a proven winner you shouldn't ever go broke.

200+ buyins for MTTs is good, but conservative. I don't hate 100+ buy-in for MTT but you gotta note that you have to drop down if you drop below 100 buyins

Yeah for sure conservative. I tend to play on pokerstars, where fields are in excess of 2000+ players for the most part. If these fields are smaller, on those smaller sites like on FTP/888/bovada I'd go for a 100 buy-in rule.

All comes down to if you want to deposit again/move down if you play with less. I think if you're a winning player; taking the most conservative route just avoids those annoying re deposits and moving down.

thats a very subjective question tho, you should play at those limits where you feel yourself comfortable but i think that you shouldn't go under 100 buyins....But if you want to play in that 200$ buyin event, yes, satellite is a good idea...Cheers!

Well done with building that bankroll - I built mine with 6 handed DoNs as well. Why don't you just stick with the DoNs as your main game and look to learn another format in the meantime?

Maybe you can get someone to stake you for the 200$ buy-in (if you can prove that you are a long term winner).

I wouldn't play anything more than $20 buy-in. Generally I like to keep buy-ins in the bankroll / 100 range.

Don't play the $200 unless you satellite in. You're risking 13% your bankroll on 1 tourney when only 10-15% of the field will be paid.

These guys are all recommending 100-200 buy ins...playing a 200 tourney gives you only 7.5 buy ins... If you fudged it a little as a reward to yourself, that might be ok, but that would be fudging it a lot.

Play roulette put it all on black and double your Bank roll would be my advice. after all $3,000 is better then $1,500

or

You could always go the safe route and just keep doing what you are doing and keep moving up the stakes using good BRM till you're asking what should I do with a Bank roll of $10,000

I think you should put it all on black though

=)

Go for 200$ buyin when u are winning nears 10000$...But always you can shoot your way through a satellite...
Rgt now i think u can go and try at the max a 33$ buyin game that too occasionally...

Lol person say put it on black when its not his mpney NEVER DO THAT casinos are not rigged but are not like real life at all they are a machine...id suggest keep doing what youve done to build it except up the stakes so you can build your br qquicker or enter a smaller bi tourney like a 50 dollar 100k gaurranteed (assuming thats how it works 50/100k=200/400k)

i hope you will not raise your buy inns to early, better to play smaller buy inns for a longer time even you won some money, in the meantime watsch some sessions in other blind levels to take some notes on regular players

Also in terms of field and size you should probably only be playing 15 bi which would be 100 bi (shoild be enough)

Never risk more than 2% of your bankroll in mtts,

Imho the more comfortable You are the better
Decisons you makein a tourney.

Playing a buyin that is out of your bankroll will most likely

Make you play scared and being scared will lower your chances to take it down.

I wouldn't recommend using such a high % of your BR to play one MTT, but IMO it's not a mortal sin provided you're still solidly rolled to continue playing your usual games. If so, it's basically taking a shot at a much higher level.

^This.

Also remember that as the price of the buy-in changes so does the nature of the players. Bumping up to a significantly higher buy-in puts you in against a new set of players with a large portion of your bankroll committed. Not good.

Start with a $50 live tournament. You'll gain a new perspective on playing that can help your online game a lot, it's way more fun, and it respects your bankroll.
