Hi!

I'm currently trying to build my bankroll through micro stakes sngs. I have decided not to deposit any money and to start my bankroll building from freerolls. I'm thinking of taking a stab at the real money sngs after having won a total of $1.

Now, obivously that is a very small bankroll and not really suitable for any stakes but I'd still like to try out some sngs. So, what sngs would you recommend:

1. $0.02 990man hyper-turbo
2. $0.10 360man turbo
3. $0.25 45man regular speed

I myself like playing TAG so i guess $0.25 would be great place for that type of play since I have more time to wait for good hands and I won't be going to push/fold mode as fast as in other two sngs. But then again, I would have more buy-ins in other levels.

Btw, I play at stars.

Yeah pretty much what you said. The faster the tournament, the more loose you will have to be (or you will get eaten alive by the blinds & antes).

Regular tournament speed gives you more time to build up a stack by playing TAG. Only problem though is that a quarter of your bankroll is invested in one regular tournament. However if you keep to a smart TAG style you should be fine at the micro level and make a profit.

Good luck! :D

I advise you to earn at least $5 in freerolls, and with 20bi start playing $0.25 45man reg speed.
It is quite enough, because in these tournaments are so many bad players , regular speed this means less variance, and have ROI more 100% it is possible to show..

Well, I guess it wouldn't take too long to raise my bankroll to $5 but on stars there are not too many freerolls. I'm currently playing mostly Bankrollmob's freerolls 'cause there's so many of them every day (around 6) so you have many chances to win. So far have managed to cash in 4 tournaments but never made it to the final table (I'm always short stacked after making it to the money, prolly 'cause I go super tight on the bubble). Also the avg. field is around 4000 people where 117 get paid.

So far have $0.47 :D

I think that MTT's are a better value. More people and they are just playing against each other on other tables. When you cash you get more.

As for the $0.25 sngs which ones would you recommend 45man or 90man? Is there really any difference in these two strategywise?

There will be more variance (volatility) in the 90 man tourneys. The more people that are in a tourney, the higher the variance will be...so i recommend you 45 man,for one thing, there’s an opportunity to garner a high ROI, which means that if you’re able to play enough tables, you can earn a nice hourly rate. 45-mans only take about 1hr to 1hr 15 minutes to complete

It all depends on your bankroll, I can say exactly for 45man need at least 25bi , for 90 man need at least 35bi , it is quite enough..About the strategy practically nothing different, but 90 man a little easier to play because the blinds 15 min , and you have a lot more time to gain an advantage over the bad players..

One reason why bad play 90man , very small tables and have to wait a very long time to table was opened, 45man much better, there are enough tables for multitables..
So you'd better play 45man , until you reach $50 , to move play $1 45man....

Do not play fast tournaments because there nothing else except happiness is not valid! Play 0.25 Regular nothing to do 45 or 90 players and just patiently without STARTING luck!

I think 1$ is not enough. Like it's been already said try to earn at least 5-10 dollars because playing 0,25 stg in too dangerous with 1$ bankroll on the other hand playing 0,02 stg it not a good choice upon your tag strategy. Why don't you try to participate in weekly round 2?

If you're trying to play 'for free' you might be better off choosing a different poker site which offers some sort of no deposit bonus for new players. That could be a good way for you to get started.

The reason I'm not going to try weekly round 2 is the huge field. There's usually 20k+ people in the satellite where only 108 get a ticket (<1%). And even if I did manage to get the ticket, I'd still have to make it to the money in the round 2. The best I have managed to do in the satellite is the 400th place and that took a lot of time.

But I guess I could take a shot at it since time is not a problem to me.

Some satellites to weekly round 2 has rather smaller field. Try to play them. And if you are lucky enough in weekly round 2 you won't need to play freerols anymore. I'm trying to build bankroll from scratch to so good luck, it's not very easy

my advice is use freerolls to practice your tourney strategy.
Against lose aggro players AK AQ and even AJ KQ and possibly KJ go up in value. Your goal should be to arrive at the bubble with between 15-40 bbs. Look for the tight players to rob them. Look to reshove against aggro players as they are opening light. Nurture your stack. Protect it but remember those chips are you weapon. You can get good practice on bubble play in freerolls as most players especially with 6 or less bbs are just trying to min cash. Bet, raise, them into oblivion. Sometimes it won't work out but the more you practice the more you will feel comfortable

I advice to play 25 sng's 90. Don't play 0,2 990 or 0,10 360 it is time for nothing.

grinding in micro's is doable, but take some time
play so many freerolls you can posible get and build your br that way, and spend some time learning proper br (read our section in strategy articles)

Thank you all for your input!

I've managed to build my bankroll up to $3.80 by now but I'm not really confident in my post flop skills. I have noticed that all the tournaments I've cashed in I have won my biggest pots through preflop play (pushing good premium hands, stealing blinds). I also don't know if freerolls are any good for practicing postflop skills 'cause most of the players are calling stations and it's hard to get any folds at times.

On the other hand, I must be doing something right. I managed to finish in 7th place in a $100 freeroll with a field of 8k+!!!

Sorry had to brag :)

Oh, and btw, I'm definitely going to stay in the freerolls till I get atleast $5.

Of course it is best to start with 45 players in the tournament. the blinds were not grow so fast so you can adjust the other two tournaments will all depend on luck.

Earn $10 then play the $.25, 45 or 90 man table.

Have to be patient in earning such an amount.

Try making a name on bet online. They have a lot of free rolls on there:)
