A few days ago I had been playing an MTT and it was an extremely small field that day with what being something like ~30 showing up, so I only top 4 got payed. The gtd wasn't huge or anything, but it was good amount to win.
I had been chip leader by a pretty big margin for a while now, I knew that the table was nitty and decided to raise nearly every hand because the table let me get away with it. The player on my right, who has been a pretty avg stack throughout the tournament and has been shoving ATC on his SB (or my BB) if folded to. And I've been letting him get away with it, because I hadn't been getting the right hands to call with.
So in an odd enough scenario small stack shoves, player in 2nd reshoves and person to my right calls. AJ vs TT vs KK. The player on my right has nearly tripled up, but i still have him covered, but not by much.
He continues to shove my BB, even though he's shoving some 40+ BBs to win 2 BBs.
2 orbits go by and he shoves again, I have ATs, normally, this deep on the bubble, I would never call. But he has been shoving ATC on the SB for a while. So I went for it, I had him covered by 5 BB at this point.
I call, he shows 2To.
I have a sigh of relief until he binks a 2 on the flop.
I get out with AK vs K8 2 hands later in 5th.
All that aside, I'm not asking for hand review or anything, because I felt pretty justified with my call there, given the circumstances. I knew I had played good that tournament. And I felt like that mattered more than winning some BI's. Is it good to not be so results oriented? I have been trying to let go of a result oriented mentality and it seems like it is starting to set in.
Does knowing that your play is getting stronger mean more to you than winning a tournament?
I've gotten enough FT's to not really remember how well I played in them a couple days later. But that tournament I just felt as if I had been "on it". Even though I wasn't rewarded.
