In addition to winning $71.25 in Event 8 (December 8), I also earned a ticket to the $7,500 Main Event on Christmas Day. Here's how it went down.
The first hour saw me play, at most, 8 hands. It wasn't a conscious decision to play tight; I just had super-duper poopy cards. Fortunately, I had a few good flops and was able to convert my starting 1000 chips into just over 4K.
Hand of the Hour (HotH):
#243798027 - I had 1010, V1 had 88 and V2 had Q9 off. V1 raised to 4.2 BB, V2 and I called. Flop was 9910; BOOM! V1 bet 13BB (all in), V2 called and I raised to 41 BB. V2 called and off to the turn we go. Turn is Q and I gotta sweat a few outs on the river (which I do - K).
Hour 2 was a roller coaster. I yo-yo'd between 12k and 3k, twice unintentionally sucking out the winning hand. Still, going into the break I was mid-division and not really going anywhere very quickly.
#243841786 - I was dealt 55 and V1 was dealt A9 suited. I preflop bet 3 BB (3300 and all in), V1 called. It was a sprint. Flop was 2J2, turn was 8 and the river was another 2. Phew!
Hour 3 had all the fireworks, and I caught several great hands (though my AA and KK shoves received ZERO calls) as I catapulted into the chip leader on a run of 3 great flops. With about 30% of the chips in play, I started bullying everyone, but especially the larger stacks!!!
#243871168 - I was dealt QJ off, V1 was dealt AK suited. Ruh-roh! I shoved 5 BB (46K and all in) and V1 called. I saw I was dominated. The flop came Q8A, suits no factor. I knew I was done, and probably out with just a few left on the bubble. Shit! The turn was 5. I started typing nh, gg, etc when BOOM! J on the river for the improbable double up (which propelled me to top 10 chip stack, from which I pushed to the final table). I used about 6 lives in this tourney (which seems to be the case to make the final table, usually).
Sadly, my run came to an end when my 66 ran up against KK and it was lights out for me. I'll try to update this post later with specific hands; just a little tired right now :-D
