I having trouble acquiring chips and even though I'm almost always around the money lately i feel as if I don't really have a chance for the big money. I usually end up with about 15bb and then I feel like I have to push on more marginal hands but I will not overpush with a hand like A10 or pocket pairs lower than 88. Any advice would be great. I want a chance at the big money and lately I'm finding myself with less that average stack late.

Open up your range. There is a difference between early stage play and late stage play. When your around the bubble most players will be playing tight trying to safely get into the money. Take advantage of this situation and build up a stack. take a more TAG style in the early stages and a more LAG style later on. Take advantage of those who are scared of losing

Today I've been experimenting more with 3 betting more preflop when I have more than 25bb.

Today I've been experimenting more with 3 betting more preflop when I have more than 25bb.
its not about 3-betting preflop. which is a good idea if u have a good hand. its also about picking right spots to steal with marginal hands.

for example if its folded down to you on the cutoff or the button, its ok to raise id say with like 40% of hands. like suited connectors 9-10s,a-10 off,A4 s,a4o, generally you must widen up your stealing range and if they flat and an ace comes out on the board dont be afraid to represent. the further away from the button you are,the more believable the cbet on the flop will b( assuming theres an ace out there and he doesnt have it.

You must also learn which types of flops are good for c-betting.

you want to focus on dry flops.meaning the ones that are less likely to have connected in any way with villain.
boards like this include:

JJ2 rainbow
2,5,10 rainbow
also flops that are good for a cbet if your the initial preflop raiser are :
A29 2tone or rainbow (hence your the preflop raiser and that ace is right in your range) (the closer you are to the button when you raise, the less credit you will be given, keep that in mind)

generally flops that its hard for your opponent to call if he doesnt have a piece of the board.

hope this helps. You must up your agression before and after the bubble in order to get deep into the money.

Remember, your apponents are as scarred as you are. be the bully not the fish. but dont go overboard. be willing to use 25% of your stack as bluffing money. maybe even more,if you think the situation is right. NO guts no glory.

Of course, this is not always the case... If you are playing a satellite for tickets, or a double thru, or a game with that structure, then if you are slightly below average you may want to consider tightening up. In a game of a structure of wider ranges between each cash increment, then that advice would be useful.

Also, you must play different given your position on the table... Position is everything and if you have a good read on your opponent don't be afraid to be more aggressive...

Oh and another thing. Try to be a bit more looser on 6max tournaments or tournaments of that structure, because the chances of your opponents having hands equal or greater than yours are only going to be more likely for a smaller amount of players.

Hope this helped you a bit, and Good luck in your future poker experiences!

Consider more 3 bet shoves over late position raises w hands that have decent This way you're picking up not only the blinds and antes but also that 2.5x raise or whatever it might be. Also look up M and learn about looking at your stack in these terms instead of BBs.

i have the same problem. but when i have a fairly large stack during the bubble, i tend to get destroyed. like today i pushed with AA with a large stack and some dude with similar stack calls with KK. and i lost and did not make the money. this happens often. i have such bad luck lol

I agree with vinyl but I would open up a bit more from other positions as well since the button and cutoff are obvious steal positions these days so try stealing from UTG or middle position as well with suited connectors if the table isn't active. You can still fold these hands if you get reraised or decide to check/fold or bet/fold if called, and it might entice action when you pick up a good hand from these positions. If a player knows you're only playing AA KK AK from early/mid position it's pretty easy to play against and easy to fold marginal hands, but by stealing from these positions makes it harder to put you on a range.

sometimes you just need to click that button and cross your fingers. when ever I feel myself being too nitty I try to lower my stakes for a few days. It tends to bring more of the gamble out in me and remind me how much fun it is to flip for stacks late in a tournament.

I also find then when Im playing for fun or practice more than for the money I am more willing to gamble and often find myself with a stack.

goodluck at the tables. hopefully you go on a heater. thats always a good way to loosen up
