Over a week ago I won a ticket to the 40,000 GP Freezeout on IPoker. This is by far the biggest entry fee tournament and prize fund I have ever been in and I'm looking for tips and advice from people who have played high level tournaments like this.

How can amateurs like me beat the pros and place as high as possible? Any theories on how I should play a tournament like this? Any tips or thoughts would be really appreciated!

I'll update on my progress when I'm playing the tournament tomorrow, wish me luck!

Best of luck. Think of it as a standard tourney you've played many times before.

While the stacks are deep ( I'd guess they will be deeper than you're used to; if so, they will be deep for longer), you can mostly play your own game. One exception is not to open-limp, if that's normal for you. You only have to do that once or twice for the good players to see you as someone who's playing way higher than usual, and to start targeting you.

Try to figure out who the good players are, and also the weak ones, and each person's style. Also, look at how you think you stack up. Did you get a strong table where most of the players are clearly better than you, or are you able to play with most of them?

If you feel able to play, then play. If you feel over-matched, you can play tight for as long as you're not under stack pressure. If you happen to catch a hand or two at the right times, that can be quite a while. Or you can opt to play in a manner that's more reliant on the fall of the cards in order to reduce the effect of the opponents' skill advantage by trying to play bigger pots, being more willing to flip, etc.

your chances are as good as any pro.
You ^ can't be serious?

Good Luck OP!! Hope you run good & enjoy yourself in it.
Pretty sure it's 5,000chip stacks & 15min. blinds in that one, with blinds increasing slowly over the first levels. Lots of time to be patient. Not sure about advice.
Question: Did you win the entry via a satty on there? If so, which one? (was thinkin' of playing a satty for it this morning).

best o luck
advice: patience, i ran quite deep in a game yesterday, only played 2 hands an hour it seemed, usually all would fold to my raise or Id double up
i folded some good hands too-pick your hand(with position) and no weakness- get it in if you got the goods
it can be scary in big money games, but treat it is a small buyin or you may look like scared money...push hard when you're sure you have it

Good Luck to you! Just play solid hands in position and play them aggressive. Raise, Raise, Raise don't play scared if you run into a Pro play aggressive, don't give them a chance to take the pot from you. And don't make spite calls or just to see what they had calls if you think your beat fold.

but
too bad you just got moved... again lol. That's one of the things I don't like about iPoker - - you get moved around sooo f'n often in MTT's.
