Hey Guys and Gals,

First off I want to say even though I've almost never posted here I have followed this forum for a long time and it has helped me tremendously! I've been consistently winning and my local casino's 50 man MTT weekly, and on Bovada too, in fact I placed 3rd out of 1387 the other day in the 10k guaranteed for a $1300 win! So thanks everyone for all your posts!

Now my question revolves around my play with pocket pairs in a MTT. Here's a typical scenario for me that I run into quite frequently.

Villain raises 4-6bb, Hero re raises additional 4-6bb with KK, table folds, villain 4bet shoves. This pretty much makes me think he has a pocket pair, question is how is it going to play out. Hero calls all in. Villain shows 66.. rivers a six. I'm now crippled for the rest of the tournament.

Perhaps it's selective memory but I seem to run into the 36% chance of another player holding a pocket pair more frequently. In fact it's this one play that generally is the only reason I get knocked out before making it to the money.

So am I making a mistake reraising with strong pairs like QQ through AA. or should I generally just be calling a 4-6bb raise to see a flop and re-evaluate?

The other situation I run into a lot when holding these strong pairs is I'll raise 3BB from early position, then someone shoves all in from late position, and I generally call and get crippled. Not much I can do about that, I have to raise, but is 3BB from early too small for a strong pair, and am I right for calling a 30BB re-raise shove from late position?

Thanks all!

Re-raising with QQ+ is pretty normal, and a strong play. When your opponent 4 bet shoves, unless you are very read dependent, and its 100bb deep and your opponent has you covered, everyone else at the table has 10bb, sure maybe then you can fold cowboys. Extremely case dependent and unlikely, but it can happen.

But from what you described.. completely fine and unlucky for you, he hit his 2 outer.

Most people can not fold kings even when it screams aces. But your situation is 100% fine. You played it fine and that is what matters. Its hard not to focus on the outcome, especially when you get it in good.

Keep playing smart, and good job!

perfect example just now.
Blinds 125/250 25 ante. I have 7900 chips. Board leader
UTG folds
UTG+1 folds
UTG+2 folds
UTG+3 folds
UTG+4 raises 1050 (4k stack)
UTG+5[ME] Ah Ac - All in raise to isolate since dealer and blinds have only 2k~ chip stacks and fold to most raises
dealer folds
SB folds
BB folds

UTG+4 snap calls with As9s

Flop 7s 4c 5h
Turn 4s
River Qs

Now im crippled, and to rub it in guy starts hammering me telling me how I play so crappy. And that was the worse play hes ever seen yadda yadda. I think I'm going to turn chat off.

At least 20 minutes later down to 1400 chips. 200/400 blinds he shoves 10k all in and I call with A10 and sucked out on him. Next hand dealt AA again but no called. So still in it but not looking good.

Don't sweat this guy being a jerk, he is being that way to get under your skin so don't sweat that he runner runnered your better hand. He got lucky, and you should win that most times. That day you didn't...so be it.

Well just finished that tourney. Interesting game... Was down to 2.5BB with 1790 chips left. Then just caught amazing cards and got all the way up to 26k chips. Then my last hand I lost with AK suited flop came 6 A A rainbow and little did I know the guy was holding 6 6. Ouch. Placed 158/1133 and the money was at 153!

If / when you're in a mood where what someone says in chat can get to you, why would you want to continue reading it?

Don't worry about this. You win 89% of the time. If someone wants to call you all in and you have AA then you should be excited, you're most likely going to add to your stack

Well I final tabled a few more tables today!

Just had this happen on the very first hand on a $2 to any $10 sattelite

4 Handed
ME[UTG] KsKh raise 3 BB to 60
Villain raises 180
Me raise to 580
Villain Raise all-in 1500
Me Call

Villain Shows 5h5s

Flop 7H 3C 4D
Turn 2D
River 5C

Man I just see to lose every pocket pair to lower pocket pairs making a set. Was my play stupid for a 4 handed table?

You did well re-raising with KK is normal but luck was not on your side because opponent hits the set, it happens and thats the game
good luck

As you have said in the starting thread that you are winning those live mtts most of the time , so that means only one Thing . that you are playing it right . That KK Hand is the good poker way you have played , cant do much when some maniacs 4 bet shoves wth 66 n hit a set.. so dont sweat on it . As you are playing perfectly the way it should be played and you are a winning Player with that style , no Need to Change it .. Gl at tables

It can be frustrating when you get your chips in with the best hand and lose the hand. What is the alternative? Fold the best hand? If you do you will lose in the long run. Play the worst hand and hope for the best? If you do you will lose in the long run.

Enjoy being frustrated at the occasional bad beat! It is just part of the game. In the long run you will win more than you lose by getting your chips in with the best hand!

Proof positive that in the examples you've given it appears you have cashed in those games!

Keep playing it the way you have been!!;)

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone! I played at my local casino this weekend in the 50 man rebuy tourney, and got my pocket pairs beat several times. I ended up on the final table with 2BB left 3 handed. Shoved with Q10 suited and tripled up, then was dealt pocket sixes and nines right after, both won against AQ and AK. Ended up taking first place for a $750 win!

I love you guys and I love this forum!!!
