I have recently decided to play a lot of MTT's this year and i find that mid/late in tournaments if i have a big stack i never know how i should play it. should i play more pots and try to bully the table or should i play tight and fold my way to the money? Any bits of advice, or tips would be appreciated thank you :)

you would have to read more about strategy in mmt, there are plenty of pages to learn about this specialty tournaments. as it depends on many factors bets initially near the bubble and the bubble. depends on your chips you have and the place at the table is important too. at the beginning of the tournament should go with strong cards. and wait.

I think with an MTT, it is important to just continue to build your stack. I know some people who if they get a big stack early (say, 3 times the starting stack) and are more than 2.5 times the current chip average, believe you should use that stack as a weapon and try to bully small stacks into folding, etc. The main problem I have with that strategy is all you have to do is have one small stack call you, and you've lost a significant amount of your chips. Do it twice, and you're right back to the average.

I know other folks who get that big stack early and then become very tight and think they can fold their way to the money. Now, if a min cash is really important to you, then I suppose that is okay. But your ultimate goal should be to win the tourney, and you can't do that by folding every hand.

I think the key is to just continue to build that stack up. A bigger stack gives you the opportunity to take some chances (like call with a flush or open-ended straight draw), but in the end, you need to just keep playing the way that got you the big stack in the first place.

This needs more information to truly help you. Saw cfb402 out of florida won full flush 10k sit and go challenge next day he won the 4k nightly main event he said he learned most of his stuff from

"FFP has been on the hunt for the ace amongst their players over the past five months, and CFB402 consistently outperformed the competition over the long haul to see him end the year $10,000 richer and crowned with the title of Full Flush 2014 Rising Star. He also picked up several Monthly Leaderboard prizes, finishing first in both September and October, second in November, and fourth in August, to pocket an additional total of $2,150 in prize money. He cites Dan Harrington as his poker hero, having employed many strategies he learned from reading Harrington on Hold’em (Volumes I, II, and III) to hone his online poker game."

Now I havent read these books but this guy chris is 42 im 45 he is where I want to be so im getting these books. lol

Now back to your question? It depends are you catching hands? Do you have table image to build on stack by bluffs and pushing? My goal is always to get a certain amount of chips than wait on my big moves. If table is a bunch of busters I dont respect I absolutely will fold way into the final. I know if get to final few people if their game are lacking or inferior I really have a shot at the deep money.

And that is the dilemma entirely most tournaments you are going to play as move up ladder the TOP FOUR is everything. You have to make timely moves you have to have timely wins. Is that simple. But if say fifth place pays 5.00 and 6th pays 3.00 and say fourth 7.50 third 9 second 12.50 and first 18?

That is a large difference say is a freeroll 25.00 one 20th pays 50cents 15th 75cents 10th to 6th a dollar

Do you see where you should have made moves if were going to earlier?

Not much difference in money.

Now you have say 200k chips good position with field I wait till get down to final 4 than I go to work to win first of that one 5.75 and honestly if final table? I win a lot.

So tournament and structure should define some of your play imho is why brought this all up with examples.

If in a 100 buy in for 20000 first prize? I hope you play slow and steady especially at a final table cannot tell you how often ive folded down to say a fourth place spot lol when should have been like 15th in events.

Be smart be aware pay attention focus on what is going on loose tight table etc.. take advantage of the situation

It all depends on the table dynamics. If your table table is loose, sit back play your premiums/position. If you're at a nitty table, you should be opening your range a bit more and stay consistent with your aggressiveness.

if you have a big stack is in the
early Etap need to play tight-
Aggressive, if the stack is less
than average and good hands
do not come it is possible to
increase the range of hands. At
later Etap can play loose, with
a big stack

Only one factor it all depends on your style of play, you have to play as you play, without playing a lot of marginal hands and adding more steal blinds.... Also you can more when play from button with lose range....

You should be happy that you have big stack at middle/late stage.

Just continue what you are doing on how you got your stack.
