I have recently begun playing MTT's (freerolls, to account for learning) and find myself playing well until the middle stages when the blinds and ante's begin to increase and start chipping away at my stack. I often find myself down to about 10-15x/bb, and am faced with a choice on whether to fold a quality starting hand (due to re-raises that would leave my stack committed post flop). Is the proper strategy here to open/shove, or do I need to have a wider range of hands that I am willing to fold and wait for a better spot?

When I have more than 15BB I play normally, with 15BB or below I'm starting to play more aggressively, I'll choose hand and a moment for pushing.
I will raise 3.5BB and if I get re-raised I will go all-in.
If someone raise before me I will not re-raise I will go all-in or fold.
With 7BB or less I'll wait as much as I can for some decent hand I push in.
With 4BB or less in big blind position I will move in with any two cards.

Thank you for the advice. In the past 2 days, I have been more patient during these stages and have employed very similar principles. It has been painful not to shove when I start feeling a pinch, but it has gotten me 2 top 30 finishes in 700+ player fields. Can't argue with the result.

I play normally when I have over 15BB.
10-15BB is still somewhat normal play, but very fit-or-fold. I either fold to a 3-bet preflop, or I shove, depending on my and villain's perceived strength. If I hit a decent flop, I shove.
Under 10BB, I shove/fold more or less based on these charts.

In my last 20 freerolls at ACR, I've gotten a 16th and 21st place, as well as 3 finishes between 40-60. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before I make the final table and earn some free $. :p

Thank you. I am trying not to look at the result (missing the cash), knowing that in a real money tournament I am in the money, and feeling good about how I played.

we must look if someone came to your flight or call and in what position you are. optimally better that nobody before you did not enter the game

Good point. As a rule of thumb, I like to be in control of the betting in these situations.
