Hello all just a quik question about this situation because I have been seeing it more and more often lately.
Ok for those of you who dont know about betting into a dry pot in late stages of an mtt or sng.
Personally If there are only 3 people in a pot with the short stack all in,why in the world would anyone pet into a dry pot and force the next to fold, instead of both players tring to take out the all in and be even closer tto the itm.
Essentially that is the way i have learned to play poker, and that is what everybook on mtts have stated to do.
I mean even if the reraiser has a great hand preflop they can tend to make even more chips than the all in.
The right move is to just check it down and get itm faster.
Thats just my opion.
Wanted to know what everybody else thought.

I'm with you just check it down unless you have damn near the nuts. Those betting into those pots just don't care about anything but the current hand, no tournament understanding I guess.

Sometimes it's actually optimal to keep the shortstack alive.. but yah.. I know what you mean when you see some donk bet POT when he flops mid pr on the turn.. meanwhile you're on a good draw.. he bets you off the hand and shortstack triples up... donk!!! frustrating.
Other times it's optimal to keep the shortie alive. Here's an example. You're C.L., you're on the bubble (of mtt or sng) and by keeping the shortstack alive you can continue to pound on the other's blinds or once in a hand with them, put them to the test for all of their chips (pressure the hell out of them). Of course they're going to have to have the nuts to make the call cuz buddy over there is sitting on a shortstack (although I've also seen this go the opposite, CL folding, then as sb with QQ shoving onto bb who is the other mid-sized stack and having him call with K-2, risking his tourney life???... why??. and having him hit the King and end up going out on the bubble).
Other than specifically trying to keep the shortstack alive to take advantage of being the C.L., I can't offhand think of other reasons that someone would want to bet you off a hand. If I'm in the hand with a good player, I'm going to trust that he's flopped a set or turned or rivered a nutflush or something. With many players though.. you just never know.. there are many who are clueless.

'checking it down' in a effort to eliminate the shortstack... 'implicit collusion' but expected without saying. If you see villain leading out with a bet here, chances are you mark him down as a donk in your notes (unless as mentioned above. there's actually some benefit to keep the shrtstk alive.. or some other circumstances that might possibly warrant it).

There will be a few times that you need to bet into such a situtation but those times are few. You would bet when you need to protect your made hand, one example you have JhTh and the board comes 3 low hearts. You would need to bet this to push the other players out to keep them from drawing to a 4th heart.

Try to keep each other in the pot to increase the chance of elimination of the short stack and move up the money chart.

I really don't bet these unless I have a monster hand and want to protect it vs. draws. One time I messed myself up by not doing so (it was only a freeroll tho). Its pretty ridiculous how many times I've been bluffed off the best hand and have to watch the person who is all in double up.
Basically don't bluff at these. Its damn near pointless.

How late are you talking? Final table? Bubble where there is only a few dollars difference.

It goes without saying at a final table I would check down(unless trips or better) or before if a big enough tourny pay scale wise. But if you have a hand that good enough to bet or needs protecting you should I feel.

I mean you flop trips, you going to let the other guy catch up over a small stack? I would at least min bet it depending on board in case some how the ss does catch you.
