Hello everyone,

I have basically played cash game only for a long time, but decided recently that I would like to try out some tournaments. I've played some freerolls and lowstake FPP tournaments, and most of the time I manage to end up ITM.

I want to develop my tournament play, and take a step forward from the tournaments with 2000+ entrants.

So my real question is: With a bankroll of 150$ on PokerStars, and a 50$ bankroll on PartyPoker - what tourneys would be good to start with?

Also, would multi-table SNGs be a good choice? (starting field of 45,90,180)

Any general tips to approaching tournaments would be much appriciated.

All the best,
Ludde2009

The simple answer is, the lowest your can find probably. I don't really believe you when you say you've managed up ITM most of the time in the freerolls/FPPs that you've played unless it is an extremely low sample size(I'm talking <5). I'm guessing you may have managed to bink a freeroll or two in your first couple tries before this post.

As far as best value in any tournament, you need to look at how much of an overlay there is, ie: how much money they are guaranteeing over what the total of all of the buy-ins are($1000 guarantee $1 tournament with 500 people in it will have a $500 overlay, giving your buy-in more value than normal.)

I think the multi table sng´s would be a better choice than the micro mtt´s with these big fields. You need 100 - 200 buy ins for tourneys, thats why i recommend the 45mans and maybe from time to time a $1.10 mtt.

Don't play MTT's in general imo. They crush your soul.

grind the 180 turbos and 45 turbos imo,
starts has 2.5 turbos 180s and 4.4 reg speed, which will be good for you to start with.

micro tourneys are so hard to build a roll in as the field sizes can be absurd so if you choose tourneys look for the 200/500 capped entries.

The $2.20 satellites to Sunday storm used to be super soft.

No idea if its still like that though.

doubt i'd recommend the $2 180 turbos on that roll, if you're still learning you could easily have swings >100bi

i'd go for $1 45 mans. as for party, just take your money off there, low stakes tournie choice is awful

I would recommend staying away from Stars(.com) for MTTs, especially those 180-mans (you can't except good ROI from them in comparison to other sites MTTs of same size). You can find much more softer fields elsewhere, like just in Party. If you're in ETA-area you could check some French sites which approve ETA-players and if not then maybe MPN network, iPoker network and

Also, don't forget to check if sites have some instant bonuses for first deposit. Quite a few offer "deposit XX€ and get XX€ for free with instant bonus". Could help to build a bankroll a little bit.

maybe stick with 45-180 man for awhile
throw in the odd 1-2$ mtt or look for 500cap mtts
if you're doing well and running deep, by all means jump into bigger and better mtts if you have the time and enjoy them
I wish I had the funds and time to play more of them
I have been enjoying the $5 90man progressive KOs I must say,
crazy soft field, try one;)

if you have a bankroll of $ 150 you play in tournaments with buy-in from 3 to 10 dollars. this approach does not give you bankrupt.

think the lowest limits would be the easiest, but the format you choose should be driven by your skill set ie 180m plays very differently than a 9m

the other thing to consider is the time constraints if you are multitabling 180s thats a much bigger time commitment than if you were playing hyper turbo 9mans

Consider a 100 bi for MTT bankroll, and 50 bi for sng's.
