I stay fairly tight at the beginning, but slowly loosen up with the blinds. I tend to tighten up again in the later stages, though.

Aggressively and using only Monster hands in the beginning. Then, slow down and start to play accoding to position and hands..

Still a noobie though..

I used to do your method, OP, but found that playing tight in the early stages and loosening up as the blinds go up is better. The field is a legit minefield of donks at first, so it's best to play only premium hands and do nothing fancy.

I agree playing tight at the beginning and gradually loosen up as blinds and antes get bigger. When antes kick in, that's when my raises usually go to min-raises and I've had good results getting everyone to fold, even the big blind, so it's great to pick up not only the blinds but also a table full of antes. When I get down to around 7 x M, that's when I consider myself shortstacked so I go into shove or fold mode, not always, but usually. When the bubble approaches that's when picking up a pot with a raise preflop works the best.

You have to avoid hero calls, and be very patient. Every hand is a decision, you have to make the best out of that decision.

I would say the best way to play in tourneys is the tight at first, then loosening up method. My main piece of advise I would give is only play with hands that you are prepared to get all your chips in with. Not that you have too but you are prepared to do so................gl :D:D:D

I endorse your comment. I'm starting to play it "seriously" and this is the most important lesson I'm trying to learn. Patience.. no hero calls.. fold obvious hands like a possibility of loosing to a nutshot etc..

Still loosing lots of tournaments with AA while the flush in the table is obvious to my opponent.

So for anyone who checks this. Patience!! hehe..

It depends on the tournament, but generally I play pretty tight to start just focusing on position. As the tournament gets deeper and antes start I begin to open up my range a lot more and become a bit more aggressive. After the 1st bubble I will tighten back up a little, then progressively get more aggressive as we approach the 2nd bubble. Then do the same until we get to the 3rd, if I make it that far.

Try to play only best hands on the start of tournament and play it agressivly and the to play middle-strong hands in position, suited connectors and small pocket pairs, I think it is a good tactic.

win is the best strategy to win (?)

in freeroll are so much donks, but in a tourney with buy in it is not the same, you have to be caught, i only play strong hands, and when i'm between 10bb /20 bb become more agressive (it's depends the read of other players in the table)

I don't have any particular favorite tactics. Each in its own good and each have to use especially in many canteens tournaments. Basic Yes aggression but very dangerous and not always productive.

no clear answer

I go into each session after examining every aspect involved. Is it LIVE play or online? Buy in or freeroll? If its live play is it a new place( ill usually grab a drink and watch a bit longer if so)gather and exploit all free information you can prior, as far as tactics in game my foundation is usually the same, tight at first open up later on, but again every situation needs to be examined before hand so your armed to the teeth and ready!

Early stage of a tournament: TIGHT and AGGressive play
Mid stage: raise/3-bet with intention to go all in if less then 20 BB
Late Stage:widen up range a bit and continue to play aggressive when in a hand

i usually try and play tight and aggressive when i am dealt strong starting hands, less chance of people calling with trash hands if the bet is high enough to discourage them from calling.

All depends on how everyone plays around me too, i call some marginal hands once in a while too when it's cheap to see if i can make a better hand.

I usually play a little bit agressive at the begining because i want to take as much as i can because when the blinds are small and many players are thight at the begining...if i survive first hour then i get seriuos...

I like to mix a little play between aggressive and passive, rather I am tight but sometimes I go with some connected hands and suit to mix
