Hi I was wondering if someone can help me out here. It seems like I am being out played during the pre flop with raises coming from every angle. Now, I KNOW FOR SURE that not everyone is getting MONSTER pockets or crazy pre flop hands.

The tourny I was in was a $160 tourny with rebuys for the 1st level. Only 58 people and I managed to knock out two. I was doing very good and catching a few lucky rivers that kept me in the game. But before you know it the mighty blinds started eating me up because for an entire level and a half I couldn't see a flop due to the fact everyone kept raising 3-5x the blinds pre flop. I was dealth DECENT hands but never anything from my knowledge enough to call. Finally I get dealt pocket 10s, I push all in, last to act, and the everyone folds except the two behind me in which one turns over pocket jacks and I lose.

I was wondering now, what kind of hands can I call with next time if I see the table just won't give a flop without a ridiculous raise. Obviously I would call with Ace and high kicker, or high pockets, and what not but what other hands can be candidates.

I think you made the right call just didn't have a big enough stack to survive. Even though to avoid lots of people folding you may want to cal a few hands and not be so tight. Let lady luck do her thing. Even though base off what your saying you were unlock close to the end of the tourney.

problem was i would call a raise here or there but then someone would just go over the top and it was like throwing away money. after i realized i spend 30% of my chip stack just making calls and being forced to fold i tightened up like crazy

safe to say though that every hand i folded that went to showdown i ended up losing so the folds were actually good calls. i know sometimes you can be dealt hands all night and sometimes you can be dealt one hand if you lucky all night. but it erks me not knowing how the other hands wouldve played out if i was bullied away from the pots

Just loosen up when you are running good and if you start to run bad tighten up again.

I have to do this sometimes, I know how annoying it is when you start to get decent hands and you raise into the pot just for some donk to raise you all in and you have to fold what could of been a winning hand. I don't even think people should raise all in with AA unless they are short stacked as they can be cracked and have been cracked :)

Be patient, you will get there and GL @ the tables

A hand like J10 suited is always a potentially great hand to play at a tournament like this. A raise with it preflop shows that you have a very high chance of having an ace or a pocket pair in your hand, and so if you hit on the flop you'll get paid off well, or if an ace lands on the flop you can rep that you have the ace and take the pot down!
