I'm a hard grinder and i find that when i get into the money i loosen up, but say i am in the top 10 with 15 players left and i have enough to sit out the blinds and finish 8th , 9th, or 10th but the remaining 5 players are half my stack should i grind it out, push or sit and wait for the other 5 players to desolve? this isn't always the case but i'v made the money final table a few times using this method sometimes wagering 2bb before flop in the small blind with just one caller, should i just call here double the bb or fold to a weak hand if i know the player is know to fold with bad cards and i can read or feel by his play that he isn't as strong as me before flop but i risk pushing myself out of the money and in the 11 to 15th range.... this is a problem i always struggle with, i'm no pro or expert but i am always trying to learn online feels as apossed to live events? any answer from a experienced player that wagers in the medium - high buy-in range any or all MTT on their opinion would be grateful. I know their are alot of other variables that could be added to make a more precise decision but i'm just looking for general hypothical situations and answers.

Are you playing to win or playing to cash? How big are the blinds and how active is everyone? you have to out last them to win the tournament anyway.. but that doesn't mean wait them out because they could easily double or triple up then it will be you on the short stack. I think everyone would say play to win, you got that far playing your game just keep it going. gl!

In my humble opinion you should only ever play for minimum cash position in a satellite where the top x number of players all get the same prize.

In standard MTT's always play to win 1st prize. If you just barely make the money and get busted because you're severely short stacked you get your buy-in back for sure but you've just wasted 3 to 4 hours of your life doing so.

Let's take a look at the Big $2.20 $2.5K Guaranteed tournament on pokerstars for example. In this tournament the top 278 players gets payed. Let's assume it took around 4 hours. Players number 216 to 278 get $3.30 for their trouble so their profit is $1.10 for 3 to 4 hours of work. The winner gets $453.33 and gets a profit of $451.13 for his 4 to 5 hours of work.

Or to put it another way, if you play the same tournament a 100 times and only win once you still make a lot more money than someone who played a 100 times and always took minimum cash home.
