Hello world. I am today is the first day with you. I would be glad of any help and suggestions to improve your game.

How do you play during the early levels of NLHE tournies? Do you open your game up, or play your normal game?

If you're just starting out as a tournament player, definitely play tight early on and observe players and the table dynamic.

Once you've built up some skills, then you will pick and constantly adjust your strategy based on THE TABLE DYNAMICS and not so much based on the tourney stage. What I mean by that is if it's a weak-tight table full of door-mats....then walk all over them if they'll let you. if it's a crazy gambler table where almost every pot is 3bet preflop, then wait for the goods and play a big pot with a big hand. If it's a limp happy table where every pot is multiway then mix it up with a few speculative hands and be sure to get out cheap unless you flop big.

im always finding ways to switch up my mtt game. Usually i try to not to focus too much on doing work, instead i take note on my opponents and play only about a range of hands in position. I might even throw in a bluff or two to allow everyone see an image im trying to portray or i might just play aggressive.

It depends.

If its deep stack or not turbo, then you can open up but if its turbo, you have to select your starting hands at the early phase.

You dont want to be blinded at the middle or end stage because of splashing of chips at the beginning.

weird. I don't remember making this post. But I do remember making a post just like this in response to a different question....did the OP change his original question?

Or....(more likely) did I drink one too many and then post my reply in the wrong thread....???

Try not to get busted so early in the the tournament.Observe your opponent for any leak and weakness and try to take some advantages of it.Make some steal in the middle phase in order to survive.

Advice for MTT - Play fast and try double-up in first levels. If blinds increases in 3-5 minutes and starting stack is 1k chips then skill plays only secondary role.

Sorry, added a partial quote from the original question you were answering for context.

The first post bumped a thread several years old; the fresh discussion was moved to its own thread.

at the start of the tournament with a 7-10 minute levels play tight, by the middle of the start more actively raise.

At the beginning I often try to play hands and look at the pot. Sometimes I try to double up with premium hands, especially at freerolls and low buy in tournements. Try to win some pots before the blind level is too high to play often hands. In the later stages I only look with good hands at the flop and I don't like it to bluff, because the chances are high to loose big pots only to win some blinds.

Tight is always the best way to play in the early stages. Not only does it give you time to watch and take notes on everyone at the table, but figure out the math.

3k start stack.

Option 1: You play a wider opening range, seeing a few more pots than usual, but nothing is hitting great. After 30 hands, you're dealt AA, with a shove in front of you. You have 2400 in chips, you double it to 4800 when you win the hand.

Option 2: You play tight, waiting for a premium hand. Same scenario, but this time your stack is 2800. You double up to 5600.

Which one would you rather have? Obviously you could be winning the pots with the wider range of hands, but they will generally be smaller pots. You'll rarely have the implied odds to bluff, (the pot size won't be big enough to warrant a bluff), so you have to play hit or fold poker.

I would go with the tight agressive style.

The less experience and skills as pokerplayer the less hands you should play.

When you feel comfortable play more hands.

If you make a call with a medium hand like Q9o.

Then you have to know that in a few minutes or seconds you have to decide if you will use more chips to this hand.

What I mean; if you dont believe in the hand from the beginning dont use a single chip on it.

Wait for the next hand.
