How many buy-ins we need for these huge pokerstars mtt fields ? (Lets say 2000 - 6000 players)
The well known thumb rule for mtt´s is at least 100 buy-ins, but i think we need way more in these cases. I mean, as an average player we win a 6000 people tourney every 6000th time ...

Pretty much everywhere I've looked has said don't risk more than 1-2% of your bankroll on any given mtt, so 100 buyins is more than enough imo.

Lol you don't need 6,000 buyins!

Remember you don't have to win to help your bankroll-just place in the $$.

100 should be plenty.

in these big fields you will way more often have min cashes or something, and this only every 5th or 6th time - and the bankroll vanishes quickly :-(

your BR can't vanish if you use BRM... if you start with 100 buy-ins then you should always have at least 100 buy-ins.
i'm one of the worse with BRM but if you strictly follow BRM rules then you can never go broke. (theoretically)

(Theoretically) but you might find it difficult to find a tournament for 1-2% of a 98cent bankroll.

I think it's best to have 200 buyins if you're 'solely' playing the large-field MTT's on Stars. If you're adding in some of the 'Cap.500', 'Cap1,000' & some other smaller field stuff (along with maybe 27man, 180man sng's) you might be okay with ~100.

I think 100 is plenty, but I don't have much experience in MTTs with fields over 200, lol.

One factor to consider is your relative skill level. The higher above average you are, the less likely you are to experience prolonged downswings, which means you don't need as large a buffer against them as someone of lower ability.

This is true, as is considering the true cost of going broke...

What I mean is are you a pro or are you playing to get better?

Is your roll replenishable(yes, I know we DONT WANT TO DO THIS , but if this is a hobby costs can be expected at the beginning), would going broke killl your play...etc. etc...

I think a great rule of thumb for MOST players is to play at a buy in level were a 20-25 BI downswing will have virtually no effect on your play....that is to say 20-25 BI downswings are very normal in large tournament play if you are playing optimally....so we shouldnt feel like the world is imploding when this very normal downswing occurs.
