So, I'm a busy guy. I have work, school, etc. I'm going to dedicate myself to ONE deepstack 15 min blind tourney a week. This'll obviously be a long 6=9 hour commitment. My question is, what but in? I make about 1000 a month with no obligations due to school. My question is this, given the chance of winning, and the fact I'm playing money don't really need, would it make sense to play a 10 or 15 but in instead of just a 5 dollar but in? That be 40- 60 a month, with huge potential upside.

sup brah
1. if you say u make 1K/m and are playing ~1tourney a week - you are a recriactional player (!!!thats not a bad thing!!! but you have to be honest with yourself as you will be playing regs - people who dedicated more time to study adn play, so by definition the will be better than you)
2. obv. 10$ games will have a bit "not as good" regs than 15$ it might be just a bit but if you play at stars for exm. 15$ abi will include a big16.5, hot16.5, the bigs... thous MTTs of tend to atract a lot of regs(Lex Veldhuis daily plays ther for exm.).
3. even if you have a steady income I would not try to blowaway all the money on 1shot trying to get 6-figure score =). BRM is stil a thing + "slow" MTTs still have variance and "must" shoves from BU with 40+BB.

With all of that MY advice would be climb slowly and when you feel/know that you beat ABI~5$ filed go higher. GL brah

It all depends on your ability to play poker. If you are a novice player, it is better for you to start with tournaments with a small contribution. Start for example with $ 1 and as you gain the skill and advance in successes to increase contributions. Do not immediately go to great expense.

If you are small and rarely play you actually have little game experience. Your chances against regular players are not great.

But. Someday you can get lucky and you will get to the final table. The only question is - will it pay for your costs for weekly attempts?

Completely agree with both of these responses. Seeing as you're not trying to maintain a poker bankroll, bankroll management guidelines are not really applicable (so any buyin could be okay).

BUT it sounds like perhaps you might not have a lot of experience and if this is the case it is probably best to stick with the lowest (micro) buyins online (ie. $1 to $3). As you move higher... even just $5 & $10 you will come across a lot of very experienced players.

I feel I should state my experience level. I've played cash games about a year. I was winning, but the reward of micro was too small. I think I could move up if not for budget and time. So I'm not a total amateur. This isn't like my first time. My objective is to save time and stay in the game. Not beat better players in poorly structured push fold bingo fests. Deepstack games will probably help rath er than hurt me. I've never heard of a us friendly 1 dollar deepstack reg tourney. I know a little more than my outs and the rule of 2 and 4. I can calculate odds, spr, etc in my head. So I do have a edge vs fish.

I'm not really sure if this was intended to be helpful or not. I never claimed I was poker God. Just not a complete fish who knows a little more than most of the cest pool. Again, I was winning. I just don't care to grind micro stakes cash at 6bb/100 and earn 45 cents a hour. That's ridiculous. And I don't have the money to seriously move up cash stakes safely. Therefore, over the long haul, it seems playing a few a month this way will help me more long term.

40-60 seems decent. You can win big too if you run good.

This was my thought. If I place top 3 of a 10-15 dollar tourney, I'll be positive for the year if I'm selective about buy ins. That's like 48 tourneys a year. If place top 10 in 2 15 dollar tourneys I'll be great. Not counting any in the money's. Worst case scenario, i lose 400 a year. Not horrible of a risk considering I make that in 2 weeks easy. Plus after a year I can change my approach for next year.

I'm new to poker, I've read a lot, and think it's really up to you, in my opinion you have to enjoy playing, if you get big money on it and still enjoy it it's gonna be ok, otherwise bet lower.

If you feel comfortable and confident, you have to try, the recommended one would be to start with the lowest ones and go up ... you have to do what you think is the right one for you.

With only one tournament per week ... like most of the other members have stated, it will take a long time to improve ... but if you are diligent and pay attention then you will eventually become more confident and experienced

if you want to save time, then playing with higher limits will do more good. The game with the weak does not become strong

It should always be at least 40 times more than the tournament entrance.

I wouldn't play only one tourney per session! You will increase the chance of winning by playing 2-3 tournaments of $5 dollars each! If you can't multitable you probably have to do it in order to have the bink you are seeking for!

Good Luck :)
