Baffling Approach

There are daily freerolls on Carbon all the way up until the 25th of this month that each offer 25 spots for the $20,000 guaranteed 1.10 buy in. These have garnered as many as many as 2800 entrants. It this scenario that made what I found at my first table to be quite odd. There was absolutely no aggression from anyone. Virtually no pre-flop aggression, hands being checked to the river, no attempts to challenge blind stealing. It seemed quite a bit like bubble play when the situation was from it. Can anyone make sense of this?

Another thing to note is that it was run at a turbo pace with 5 minute blind structures and 2000 starting chips.

Very weird on a Freeroll. I can see this in a normal MTT, when the table just gets cold (you said it was one table, not every tourney). What makes it odd, is usually the BINGO players will start going all-in if no one is raising. BTW - This is a good way to get your AA all-in. Smooth call it if you think a bingo player will go all-in if there are not any raises.

I would imagine you have people sitting out ... they dont show you on a lot of sites.
Next time try min raising and seeing who auto folds, they are generally not present.

There are a ton of sitouts because they allow people to register so long in advance of the start of the tourney. When there's only an hour or 2 hours to register for a tourney, sitouts are rare. Carbon gives such a large window for people to register, logout, and forget altogether about the tourney. This particular tourney has 15%-30% sitouts for the first 45 mins. After that, sitouts are gone as blinds increase and antes kick in.
I've already qualified for the 20K frenzy, so good luck...

Ive never seen that in a free-roll. Quite odd. I'll have to go with TKE probably lots of sit-outs.

You would think that they were sitting out with that style of play, but they actually were there. They would occasionally show some life.

I have to tell you that it doesn't sound strange at all to me.. I play everywhere but Merge is my home.. The people are made up of regulars on Biggest E Casino and Sportsbook Poker.. You see Carbon but the people are on three sites and a lot of them know eachother. That freeroll is a super RARE thing.. so they are feeling cjallenged to use it and get in to the tourney but it's not like the freerolls on ACR where people are completely out for blood.. or 32 cents...Merge is great and you have picked up on it..

25 seats is it? out of 1500? Better odds playing a $10 freeroll on ACR with 400-600 players even if only 10 cash.
Not to be rude but I disagree with you a lot here.
Also Carbon - merge has way more than 3 skins.
The players on merge are not above average until you get into the daytime and late night $11's and up and then mostly because the fields are relatively small and the grinders are in them all to makeup their lack of volume
And not that many people in a freeroll with 1500 players know each other.

ITS NOT BAFFLING

Most players that play freerolls have no money so they play cautiously in order to go deep in these games with the hope of going deep.that is how i see it. why be agressive when you can wait for premiums its not like you have to win you just have to finish top 25

Very true. They are very rare. That's why I have stepped aside from Carbon for now. Not only are there freerolls very sparse, but the site in general is not catering to freeroll grinders. Lowest buy in across the board is 1.10, which is the majority of what you'll earn in min cashing in one of their freerolls. I like the site though, just not right for me at this time.

I definitely understand that. I'm actually at BetOnline now for that very reason. But I can assure you, playing in a tourney that only pays out the top 1 and that is run at a turbo speed, you'll never cash playing that conservative. I've cashed twice this past week on Bet in tourneys that have similar payouts and know from experience that it takes more than playing premium hands safely. And besides, those tourneys are run on a daily basis. Why not make the most of them?

I haven't played in them recently but it was more like 2500 plus when I last saw.

Definitely utilized that strategy a couple of times. But you'll always have one other active player fighting for those blinds lol

Haha ya thatll happen A92 but be patient you have an idyllic situation and don't want to bust him or risk breaking table at least until blinds are actually worthwhile.
I would say field test that Vill. and see how they respond to min and real raises whilst blind are low etc.
Then when the blinds are worth it especially if antes kick in boom you have his number and can hope to not get unlucky to beat him which is amazing.

To james and count... dismissed as irrelevant egos who have no handle on life or people. - freerollers dont just play on one site ... seriously and with 2500 people in them they dont want to wait around to try and "take first" LMAO 1-100 cash and this is the point you try and take to the table; wow.
Anyways gl and keep it up A92, there are loads of better freerolls sites if that is the route you are taking.
Play your best at all times or with the preambled clause that you know the stlye you will approach in a freeroll or $500 buyin.

In every freeroll I play in, it's an all in festival. You can't really play any 'poker' until the very late stages when there are only 2 or 3 tables left. Then suddenly strategy comes into play.
