As suggested you can turn off chat. But seriously i don't see a reason to get so bothered by it. I find it funny when that happens and i secretly wish that it keeps going on or escalating. Because usually online poker is very serious and quiet. You can not see who is at the other side, you cannot chat face to face. So it can be great fun if people start having a go at each other. That actually helps me relax a little bit. Who doesn't like to be entertained at a poker table. So my advice would be to enjoy it.

I love the chat feature!
Helps get out anger and fun to see people trash talk, all part of the game. Don't take it personal!
As others said, just disable the chat. If I get really tilted, I will just click out of it and bam, problem solved.
It is nice though to get a trash talker out and as you bust you type "GG!"

All the above can show a players tendencies too.
While they are abusive & not concerntrating properly, its more likely the will make mistakes.

I find the more they chat, the quicker they are usually out.
In live poker, table talk is a big part of the game. not only is it a big part of the fun, entertainment, building friendships and passing time...but actually you can get a lot of free info that way.
I once heard a guy quietly tell another guy next to him about my "strategy" and style. I pretended I didn't hear and used that against both of them for hours....constantly feeding back into their image of me, all the while exploiting it.
or...you'll hear players lie about their hand...they'll say they had the nut flush draw when you know they couldn't...all of this is free info.

I know what you mean. As a newbeginner I were chatting with another Dane.
But he explaned to me that poker is a kind of war and if he got the chance he would eat me.
Playing friendly to some will destroy the game and will not help you.

This where I stand. This helps with the boring points in every long tourney. But don't forget not to get lost in this. This is a distraction and although they are not always pulling antics, sometimes you can get caught up in it and lose a bunch of chips cause you were lost in their anger instead of managing yourself. Always is very funny though to see others going at it.
