90 player S&G (Turbo Progressive Super KO), 4 people left. I was the short stack, and action folded to me in the small blind. I decide to shove into the BB, who barely has me covered, and (s)he calls me with KJ (I feel REALLY gross here to be dominated).

First off, is my shove fine? Or should I have waited for a better spot? Is villain's call fine? I sometimes find I struggle in these spots, probably shoving a bit light, and I figure I should be able to get that shove through a good amount of the time to make that play profitable.

Or was that a bad play on my part?

You took a calculated risk, but remember as the short stack, you shoving range is probably quite wide. BB decides that K J dominates a lot of hands in your range. Your shove will work probably about 50% of the time. This happened to be the other 50%. You might have been a bit over-optimistic with 15 big blinds, but that is just an opinion. I don't shove there, I probably just call and re-evaluate after flop. But, it really depends how aggressive you want to be. If this works for you, then keep it up. If you find that you are a bit too aggressive, dial it back a bit, and in a situation like this, play a bit more conservative. Good luck with your next effort.

bad shove in my opinion, i don't consider low stack 15bb and even more comparing other stacks, there are not big difference. i prefer to be patient until 8bb in final table. but if you are a player that likes risks it's ok. and yes it was a quite risky call.

Seems standard to me. If you feel like you don't have a post flop edge against your opponents then this is a standard Nash shove.

Big blind just so happen to have a decent hand to defend with.

I feel both shove and call are a bit too loose here, but maybe I'm being too nitty. You still had 15 BB which is not a big stack, but not that short that you have to shove with that hand yet. Only times I would shove in this case, is when I notice the BB is very tight and the only time I would call as BB is when I notice the SB is playing very loose.

bad shove-risky call in my opinion...but that's happend when you play KO tournaments/sit@go...you have to take some risks in order to win.

Honestly a bad shove and a bad call in my opinion you do not have to shove there for some reason people feel they must shove within 10-15 bb with crazy hands its not a good play overall

I appreciate the feedback (I don't take any of the comments personally). I'll have to double-check the push-fold charts as well (I didn't refer to it in my original note). That said, I think a big part of my motivation here was beyond first level thinking. With the chip stacks so close here between myself and the BB, I had more fold equity than had I shoved the same hand into the other two larger stacks.....that it would take a narrower range for him to call, allowing my shove range to be wider, but I guess KJo is at the bottom of his calling range in that spot, LOL!!!

What do you think about that mindset there? I know if I were in the BB, my calling range is narrower against a comparable stack vs. a larger stack, who I feel would shove much wider.

Or did I level myself?
