What are some strategies to reduce the chances of bad beats without risking too much of your chip stack in a tournament?

As well, what are some common mistakes to avoid while playing in MTT.

i never raise with or go all in anymore with big pair hand anymore. i get more bad beats doing this than playing mid suited hands or mid to small pair hands.

Playing to avoid bad beats seems like a very common mistake.

Play to get value from your hands and embrace bad beats as evidence you are getting your chips in good - rinse and repeat.

Another good one is playing the same way no matter how many chips you (and your opponents) have.

Good luck to you! :D

You have to try to play your hand at the moment when your opponents bet small bets - it can make the game easier (there will be a small loss), and so - it's almost impossible - it's poker - and you can expect anything from it.

With experience, you will have a specific strategy for each type of hands, and you will stick to this strategy. Bad beats will be, this is poker, but you should know that despite the loss, you did the right thing in this hand in terms of mathematics

What do you call a "bad beat" in MTT ?What would be a "fair win rate" if player pool is 1000 ? 10000 ? ...
Some of the best tournament players only win 1 big tourney a year.
Common mistake is hoping to win every MTT you play.

According to me we need to play tight poker game in normal deep stack Mtts only with fewer premium hand until we get the enough info about our villains. This will eradicate lot of bad beats.Though in ST games we are bound to play few mediocre hands at some stage because of the pressure of the blinds and diminishing stack but it is the nature of the game and we must accept it.

I'm trying to tidy up my live game after a bad game last night where I got drawn out on a big pot and then basically called it quits. Wasn't a bad beat really but it happens to me too much so I have to do something about it.

I think I'm going to try more small ball poker and get away from big bet poker especially in my live game. There are just too many calling stations that I play against that would chase a draw to the river no matter what kind of bet I put out. And then you've got the family pots that get limped around. You try to raise to isolate or at least trim down the players when you get good cards, naw, family pots a family pot, everybody calls anyways.

Small ball seems to be the way to go for the lower risk, and being able to walk away from situations that would be a lot harder to get away from if the pot was larger.

Play many head ups, with practice you will be able to "read" your opponent more easily.

Bad beats usualy means you got it in good, either you got it in ahead which is great! Or a cooler. Both cases you can't do anything about it any you made the correct play.Don't let bad beats change your decissions in the future like gotace said. There is a lot of value in those hands and playing it because you're scared to get it in ahead, but losing because you might get unlucky isn't profitable. Youll indirectly lose money there not re-raising, unless ofcourse you think trapping will be more profitable which i think is in some cases.

It does not depend on what strategy you play

It does not depend on what strategy you play. Bad beat is such a moment in poker, which is very difficult to feel. If you play only on good hands, there is always a chance that you will lose because it will be a beat beat. But here is even a positive moment in this situation. You have exactly as many chances to win against opponents thanks to a bad beat, how many chances your opponents have too. The main thing is always to play on a good card and then the probability of a bad beat will be very small, but still it will happen periodically. And then it does not matter whether it's live poker or online poker, the probability of a bad beat is the same everywhere.

The downside of playing well is that you will get "bad beated" more often than weak players, as you are capable of making good folds.

Its a great part of the game, if beats didnt exsist poker wouldnt!

Completely agree on this, bad beats are evidence that you are getting your chips in good, and tbh, you can't have more bad beats then not (statistically speaking).
Common mistake is definitely tilting. For example, yesterday during CC freeroll, I tilted cause someone played extremely bad but got lucky on the river, I started fooling around, playing donkey poker, and even getting lucky all the way to the final table... Don't be like me :D It just ruins your game in the long run, if you give in to tilt and playing bad..

always analyze the way of playing of each person, although never trust because from one moment to another may be playing differently, it is mostly played by instinct

not necessarily, maybe a pair of 2 makes you win a good statck, you may have a pair of 2 and the opponent has AK but on the flop nothing comes out, you just have to know how to manipulate the raise

if you're right, but the biggest fear you can have is the all in preflop, it's where most hands have lost and I've won even with marginal cards

hahahaha not necessarily, all online poker are very few predictable

as long as you have a strong hand and your position is good, increasing the number of chips gives you a chance to win the hand as your opponents with low hands fold.

I not think there is a strategy to avoid bad beats will simply be present you can not stop playing your strong hands up the boat just to avoid a bad beat

Just adjust your play so you can minimize your losses.
