Its how you play them.
AA is a lock and will win a lot of games... most
hands lucky to get top pair... so you beat those. A lot of premium hands have an ace AK... AJ so forth. Lower tier ones are beat KQ, QJ... you have an 75% on all pairs. When I lose its flush or straight or low pair hits a trip most common way to lose.
This hand you want action but only 2 or 3 way... as good as it is so you bet accordingly.
If you ever play quads... obviously AA you bet strong its 2-3 way... you flop AA with AA... so a continue bet would scare most people expecting a pre-flop bet to have an A with an AA board. If you checked or called pre-flop they might not expect it but I feel those are bad strategies pre-flop on 80% of AA pre-flop. So a check on flop and weak turn bet that looks like your stealing pot is optimal... your hoping you get check and playing an agressive player who goes over top bluffs and let them dig their grave, ideally but some players are conservative and will be hard to get.
Now KK is trickiest top pair... a lot of times... short stacks go allin A 2-9 Kicker, A10-Q played or called regularly and AK and AA are bet agressively. Virtually everyone looking to play Aces only elite players backoff. So if you play them like Aces you got to be patient.
I bet them almost like Aces bet little less knowing a flopped A and Im done, also a strong re-raise from guy that is conservative might warn... Ace alert! So I bet enough to scare garbage flush/straight draw hands. I expect AJ or A7 to call me especially short stack... with short stacks I bet 50% of stack to force action... their desperate and a J10 allin is common. But most play their Ace. An A flop slows me down... I bet small or check... basically concede pot usually unless its player that is maniac or something. If A misses it happens a lot I laydown the hammer bet double pot or 50% of the stack of player. Don't like allin cause it looks like a donk
bluff... I also consider straight and flush draws... bet 15% 20% or higher to see turn then lay down hammer allins are more appropriate if suit is missed or connecting straight card.
Well, as you can see playing pairs is an art. I played a tourney recently folded JJ... it was JJ vs semi-agressive player but figured KQ, JQ, A 2-9 folded... he had A9 flopped an Ace. I would of flopped an J and turn full house river... in normal tourney I play it. Knowing that A is out there. The JJ-KK trips is killer for A flops... my fav card combo to trap, he would of been dead meat. But knowing it was a satellite I milked and played more conservative than usual an got easy... fold for 45 min got a cash. Said guy think lost anyways.
