Just another day... a small speck in the big picture
I gotta talke to Jared Tendler or someone.... (the Poker Gods??).
Talk about runnin' bad... and not sure why I get mad?
This morning I'm playing 6mtt's, just off bubble in 3 of them I'm sitting with decent stack of ~50bb's... get it in GREAT.. and guy hits runner runner royal? Puts his stack in over the top on flop as a 5to1dog? what is up with that, lol. He gots a pair! (not even a draw... a weak backdoor flush draw, lol).
Get it in good in another... losing two 80/20's in two tourneys, mins. apart (what do they say in chat.. I putzzz you on da Acezzz Kingzzz... How often do you hear that one? yah.. ok.. that's my entire range there in that spot.. AK, lol.. let's gambooool.. put ur stack in w a baby pr. and hit your 2-outerzzz). I'm supposed to LOVE this stuff, lol.
So in the tourney the guy hits runner runner royal on me I'd had a monster stack but now still have ~25bb's (not great but ahead of many stacks on my table)... guy limps utg at 400/800.. another raises.. I ship QQ.. and ATo Snaps for 3/4 of their stack & hits the Acezzzz... 'bink'... 'gg' me, LOL just a bit off the bubble in an MTT that had ~6,000 entrants.
Freak'n MTT's... argh... they can try a person's patience for sure (mine anyways).
I shouldn't complain really... I took a 1st yesterday in a priv. tourney & a 2nd the day before & am still on top of a leaderboard in a couple of leagues I play in (online & live). I'm gettig it in good (even wayyyy ahead.. which is good(er) ), I'm setting players up to where I'm getting them to stack off when they're way behind, etc.... things going good. Can't win 'em all (hands I mean... not games/tourneys obv.)... but when you're getting it in real good at crucial moments for HUGE pots & taking major donkings.... it still gets to me. I pretty much never expect a hand to hold up - - I don't sit there staring into my puter screen begging, "Hold... Hold.... Hold... NO 2-outerzzzz pleazzzzz" Alot of the time I'm not even watching the outcome (aside from seeing what villain got their chips in with & making a note of it)... but still am finding this the toughest part of the MTT game.... by a longshot.
I've put so many hours into studying the MTT (nlhe) game I can barely estimate it (but I will.. cuz I'm a 'math guy', lol... maybe 1500 - 2,000 hrs. in past 3yrs.). I've played around with Pokerstove so often I can guesstimate the eq before it finishes calculating it, lol. I've watched probably over 300 vids. (< that's a low estimate as I've got well over 500 on my puter & still watch 2 vids. every week today). I've read umpteen books(50+ ??), some of them many times over(4-5x) (especially the best ones obv...ie. "Winning Poker Tournaments - One Hand At A Time Vol.1 & 2" (btw, if you haven't read these books and are seriously interested in improving your MTT game... get them!!! worth every penny). I read alot of HH posts & share about hands & spots with others. I rail a few of the MTT regs. & learn alot from doing so. I review my own HH's, I try to prepare myself before playing (ie. go for a walk, do a short relaxation thing, make sure I eat healthy stuff, get well-rested, etc.). Putting in volume has been a problem as my part-time work has kept my hrs. kinda messed & I'm also lacking in the online bankroll dept. (there's been alot of unexpected expenses over the past couple yrs. - both my partner & myself are on disability for chronic illness, her's having progressed to HCL (liver cancer) awhile back.... most often once I'm up a few bucks I'm transferring it off to a neighbour/friend, etc. to cover living costs, meds., etc.). < again I guess I can't really complain at all & just need to look at things differently... thru another pair of lenses so to speak. I mean I'm pretty fortunate in many respects & am lucky that I do get the free-time to play when I do. And on top of that, I actually win the monieszz.. even if still stuck in buyins I'd prefer to have moved beyond by now (originally 'my plan' was to 'never' withdrawl a dime or transfer a penny until I was at least rolled to be a reg. in the $25-$50 buyin MTT's (ie. 100buyins). Unfortunately things haven't gone according to my plan (but then again... maybe that's a good thing.. as it's proven to be so many times before in my life in other things).
Perhaps I need to focus on looking at it all differently.... perhaps 'just for today' I can try to keep things in perspective & know that it's only a small speck in the big picture & as far as my poker journey goes... it's all just another stepping stone along the path. I do still hope to one day be able to take a shot at being an MTT reg. (online & live). Just not really in the cards for me today (I mean I couldn't/wouldn't even be able to make a committment to a staker at this point in time... too many things going on in my life). So, just for today I'll continue along the path (was about to say 'continue with the grind' < but that would be looking through the wrong pair of lenses again), play some poker tournaments when I can, read a bit (when I can), watch some vids. (when I can), review HH's, talk to others, try to contribute to a poker forum
, etc. etc. etc. (when I can).. AND.. maybe even win some Tournaments or final table them (when I can... if &/or when the poker gods say so).
One book I haven't picked up (yet) is Tommy Angelos book. Pretty sure it addresses the very stuff I have the hardest time with (that 'stuff' being 'myself'.. yah the signature tells
One foot in front of the other I suppose (I know). Embrace variance & understand that one needs to put in volume to get the results. Oh yah... & once in awhile 'cross fingers'! (I even sucked out on someone today in Cardschat Stars game... flopped a set on a monotone flop.. miracles of miracles.. they werent' drawing to the Nuts.. they'd just flopped it with A5s... I ended up hitting a boat.... yay me!).
I used to make an error of playing too tight in later levels but have come to understand in large field tourneys one needs to be prepared to gamboooool once you're down to ~30bb's if one hopes to make a serious go of goin' deep. I used to never want to get it in bad.... but have heard tourney regs. say "if you're not getting it in bad... you're not getting it in enough"
(< haven't quite embraced that idea... 'yet').
GL to all the CC Tournament players here. Helps knowing there are many, many others in simliar boat. MTT's can really suck at times huh. BUT sure feels good when you go deep in one (even winning a smaller field, low buyin priv. donkament feels good, lol).
Have a great day!! ... unless of course you've chosen otherwise.
