Hi all :D I'm playing in the Sky Pokers UKOP's event which is a 6 max site, and I don't really know how to play them, what advice would you give me, as it's going to have about 1k or so players as it's a £25k gtd event.

The same play as with 9 players but in 6max you can steal more blinds and you get on bb faster but dnt expect that your opponnents will call your all in very often

Shorthanded tables can be a bit more action packed, marginal hands for full ring sometimes get big bets. You'll see KJo, Qjo, A6o... Depends mostly on the table, however. Overall, though, expect more aggressive play.

You should play more agressive and if your stack is above average then try always to steal blinds with min raise on the button (when others folded).

I agree on what tables to play easier. The main reason is fewer involved cards in the hand, and thus a chance to win the hand more.

Don't turn into a maniac, but play slightly more aggressively than in a full table. I love the 6 max myself but it's a bit different. Good luck in the tourney!

Agreed. You'll need to widen your ranges, and blind stealing is also more important. When you're in the cutoff or on the button, it'll get folded to you a lot more than you are accustomed to if you typically play 9-seat tourneys.

I have widened my range a little and am not so shy and always playing premium hands.
Good Luck.

hello klduff.

I guess that for a 6 max table, with a medium hand could be played like in fixed limit tournaments , and with a strong hand better play aggressive, depending your position at the table. Good luck.

Short handed is it's own beast. I guess I would recommend getting a scope of where hands lie statistically in comparison to each other in isolated situations as opposed to full ring. She how AA vs 7h8h comes out in a hand calculator, and then put AA vs. 7h8h vs KxQx vs AsJs etc... and see what hands are getting value and where, making sure your play is aligning with your true value and not just perceived value... you can control and isolate a lot more short handed, and are also in position more often, I loveee eeet lol

Divide your opponents into categories
The main thing is to understand who plays what style and what you can expect from them.

1 Too aggressive player.
This type of player thinks that since these are 6 players, you need to 3-bet every time you press the button.

Benefits: They can put you in a quandary.
Disadvantages: They play too many pots with weak ranges.

2 Weak, tight player
Players of this type are used to filling tables at which they can wait patiently for aces to be dealt to them.

Advantages: does not crumble into shavings.
Disadvantages: You can still pick up their chips because they are too passive.

A tip for a tournament of 6 is that you have to do your best to grow because the blind takes you much faster than in a tournament of 9 and eats your chip stock quickly.

I've found that playing a lot of 3-player jackpot games makes 6-max games much easier.

You dont need to use a different strategy, just because a tournament has a maximum of 6 players per table as opposed to the more common 8 or 9. It just mean, you will never be in early position or face early position action, so you dont need to have ranges for those situations. A 6-max table is basically just a 9-max table, where the first 3 players have folded. There is nothing more to it than that.

Sure player pool tendencies can be different, but there are many other factors, that are more important for that then the maximum number of people on each table. Action junkies probably like 6-max, but you certainly also find them in 8-max or 9-max events. So rather than having a "6-max strategy", you need a strategy for dealing with action junkies.

The type of opponent and his playing style is the main factor that will determine the width of our ranges. We have to exploit our opponents every time we get the opportunity, and adjusting our starting ranges is a great way to do this. For example, at a table where everyone is playing tight, we should open up looser in order to pick up a lot of unnecessary pots. On the other hand, if we have an aggressive player behind us who constantly 3-bets us, we should play tighter than the charts suggest. This will give us a generally stronger range that makes it easier for us to resist 3-bets.Betting is a powerful and extremely lucrative poker weapon when used correctly. There are several reasons to 3-bet preflop: For value. 3-betting with strong hands will allow us to build big pots and extract more value from weaker hands that our opponent will call. Many inexperienced players slow play too often strong hands, but for the most part aggressive play will be optimal. Bluff. Adding bluffs to our 3-betting range will keep it balanced (less obvious) and also prevent our opponent's hands from realizing their equity. If we only 3-bet with the nuts, our opponents can easily exploit us by falling to our 3-bets every time.gl)

My opinion: Do not play them, or just rarely on micros, or turbo satellites. If you are not good at that, like me, then better do not play them.
