I have $240. On pokerstars they only have $1 or $5 but none in between. Any advice for these kind of SNGs? I won 1 and lost 3. All 3 were on the bubble and 2 were suckouts. I usually play ultra tight but this means I might miss an early double up which would help...

What % of hands played?

Play UTAG...if playing > 10% of hands in these, ur probably playing too many hands. If you play any hand (even AA, KK) on bubble, you're likely playing incorrectly (unless a situation of having to PUSH because of being small stack with < 5M).

Remember, 5th place is = 1st Place.

Yep. Dead boring.

To answer OP, you are not rolled for $5.50s if you cannot win 60%+ of them. You need to be a consistent player to consider it.

Since you are not doing that well, drop down to the $1 ones, even if the rake is much worse. Get consistent. Build your BR to $500. Then move up.

And, yes, an early double up can get you to the end fairly easily.

Ugh, that sounds like a good way to ruin the excitement of poker forever.

To the OP, unless you really have your heart set on playing the DONs, I'd recommend regular payout sngs, mtts even cash games.. anything but the DONs. Sure they are beatable, but so are all the other games. And the other games are easier to sustain a better ROI, more fun and better to learn actual poker skills in.

It really depends on several factors.

1) how quickly can you reload?
2) You CAN reload, right?
3) Ok, if not then what's your winrate?

So with $240 you've got ~46 BIs, it's a decent place to start, but I'd be ready to head to the 1's if you go on too big of a downswing.

While the DoN's have changed drastically in the last 2 years there is one post bankroll for these things on 2p2 that still holds true today.

Gl at the tables.

Well, you are rolled for that limit, and if you think you might not be then maybe that's your mind's way of saying these thing's aren't as worth while as they seem. It's not tough to beat when you run well and you have just over 45 buy-ins, so it would take a gang of suckouts to do too much damage to your roll, but it is possible, believe me lol. If you must play these then TAG all the way and I do mean tight!

With that said, you think you might consider playing in some 27person MTT's? I've had some great experiences with these games in the past and think you'd be better off building a roll this way until you can play in cash games where people respect your raises and you can play some real poker.

Get 1st place once in these MTTs and it makes up for 10 suckouts/entries. However if you're consistently making the final table (which is really not difficult) then you can expect to cash a hell of a lot more often than that unless the card gods are crapping all over you. Even then, you can steal blinds and win 1st.

If you get sucked out on in these DON's 10 times you would need to win 10 to get even and then tilt control would be a factor. I dunno I'd leave them alone even though 5th place counts as 1st place, it's simplicity is very deceptive to me.

DONs are not exciting. They are a grind. Even if you are winning at a decent rate. If OP is doing poorly, at least he can minimize the drain by going lower. It will then take less time for him to lose his entire bankroll at a game he can't break even at. Admittedly, we don't know how he would do -- he needs at least 100 games to even have a clue how he's doing. Four doesn't cut it.

I also prefer regular payout SNGs, especially 9 handed. But you really do have to win some. Otherwise, your bankroll just dwindles and it's not much fun at all.

OP -- go check out the SNG lesson in the PS Poker School. And, if you want, get Collin Moshman's book on SNGs. You need to get a bit better at these.
