if you play tournaments and play them well ... like noses, someone can move forward if they always find a madman or another madman doing everything and bothering you the tournament. every day I see that winning a tournament always depends on luck in the largest number of cases.

Relying only on luck cannot help us to become a greater poker player.
Cards are dealed randomly for all players.
We have to be patient, that is the key.

No matter how good we are playing, no matter how correct mathematical decisions are made, 80% of wins in the tournament are pure luck.

Being profitable in tournaments is far from all luck and definitely not '80% luck'.

Yeah you might have to 'get lucky' to win if you are only playing one tournament, but over time if you have more knowledge, experience, and skill than your opponents you will win more tournaments and make more money than someone who is just hoping to get lucky.

So study, play a lot, and stay patient - good things come to those who wait.

Good luck to you! :D

I think if you analyze yourself and your play you will realize it isn't all just bad luck. Its an easy scapegoat, but good players do cash and make money consistently, you got to be critical of yourself and your play or else you wont get better

this is for you my dude:bike:

hope it helps. Post some hand histories here man. I'm no pro by any means but its always good to bounce off some ideas

Feeling the pain

There is a great deal of variance in MTTs. That is just the nature of the beast. Mathematics tells us that the more people who play in a tourney the greater the odds of a poor player doing well. That being said, skill and playing smart cards will always come out on top in the long run.

I have felt the pain of watching a maniac sucking out hand after hand but have learned not to let it bother me. Over time I know they will bust out and adjust my game to help compensate for their lose style. It is just part of learning to play regardless of the texture of the table.

Those "all in" fanatics always tilt me. They shove with nothing and invariably beat me. This maniac that had position on me just cracked my AA with 85. Don't you know 859 comes out in the flop....

Brother I've had it happen to many times to mention. You have to love people who will go all in preflop with 10 3 offsuit. That was the last bad beat I had. I was holding bullets and the board ran a K high stright for him.
Most of the time now it doesn't get to me now but used to make me want to burn my computer. Not trying to get mystic on you but I have found meditating really helps me avoid going on tilt.

I think that you need to go to an opponent with a card with which you are sure that you will win.

Agreed, if your not lucky at some part of the game, your out. folding everytime doesn't move you forward and you never see others cards so it's a gamble calling a move.

Always playing allin, a person can be lucky and he will win one tournament, but he will lose the next 30 tournaments. This game is not profitable and does not allow you to improve your poker skills.

Poker is a game of luck, it's bad luck when you sit down with someone who knows how to play.

What you mean? How can that be a thing?

You talking of the hands won during a tournament or what?

I mean that we can do the right action in the tournament, but still our opponent will finish his 2-3 outs and we will get out of the tournament. I do not know how you are, but I constantly have such situations.
Therefore, I do not know how to play premium hands in tournaments, where most of the players do Call with garbage on their hands and constantly wins where they had only 10% to win

Pocket 9's

My first hand of the tournament. BB didnt act yet, SB didnt act yet, a couple players fold, the guy right before me raises the pot x4. Now its my turn. What do you think I did? What would you do?What do you think happened? Let me know somebody and then I'll tell the rest of the story of the hand.

It is true that in poker luck helps a little but depending on it at all times is wrong

Luck is involved but to think luck is the only or biggest factor is fish talk.

Playing against man isn't hard, all you have to do is fold and live to fold again. It depends on luck only when you have not seen the river card.
