re: Poker & All-in with 4BB in early position
This hand was played perfectly. You absolutely had to open shove w JJ in that position with only 4BBs left. The only thing I can say you didn't do well is that you tightened up a bit too early. If you have anywhere from 10-20 blinds you can still open in early position, but more likely late position with some of the hands you had (44,99,JJ). You should have been also looking at your opponents and moves to make in isolation against some other tight players. You are going to have to scrap those little pots here and there and steal a few blinds to keep your stack above 10-15 blinds. Most professionals say that you should open shove when you are as low as 8-10 BBs.. so 4 BBs is really late, even tho I dont agree, you can probably wait until you have 5BBs, but you are getting really low there too. Even really really late in large MTTs ( 5000+ players) you can wait til you have 3BBs, but again thats not suggested. As far as your hand goes you couldnt do anything about it, thats just bad luck, and the 4s were probably just hoping for a race, considering you only had 4BBs left. When you are that low people arent going to be able to put you on anything large or give you any respect because they understand you have to open shove with anything nice (large suited connectors or even low PPs) Just keep in mind that when you have chips in a tournament you have to make some moves, raising when you feel some people are weak and taking advantage of tighter players and utilizing your position so you dont find yourself in that same predicament again. Thats the best advice i can give. Good luck you seem to play well, but loosen your style a little bit when you have chips and get in some small hands when you can try to take some chips.
