I'm pretty sure I could have played this better but I got a lot
of flack from somebody about this play.. it seemed to set them off
and they weren't even involed. They went on to say "how can you not
shove there" fkin moron etc.. Anyways: utg had limped.. so being in middle position
i 3x'd with AKhrts. It folded to SB who called and was essentially pot committed. I
decided since I had him covered by 3000 chips chips I may as well
allin and hope he has some smaller ace and has to call down. He
called with 33 for his tournament life. It was kind of questionable
play on the sb's part there without hitting a set and havin only
the underpair.

Anyways can anyone please fill me in on what I should have done better
there? I was in mid pos so I didn't wanna risk a button 3bet so close
to the cash.. am I just too results oriented there with the cautious
AK play.. should I just be shipping it there on the money bubble
when I have roughtly 10 blinds?

well, I wouldn't have done that. Since he was practically comitted to the pot, he would call with almost anything, so betting without be at least a high pair wouldn't such a good idea in my opinion

With the ante, the blinds are 'effectively' 400/800 or thereabouts, so you have effectively less than 10bb's here, Either way just shove it all in preflop.

This is a push preflop for sure..Its really bad to involve ur stack in this without pushing..Ofc many donks would still call you with 33 etc..But its a easy move to make really.

Use M instead of BB when there are antes.

Easy shove pre.

All this really pertains to the exact position we were at in the tournament. It was more along the lines of; should I fold AK and not get involved and simply make the cash. Or risk getting it in with AK and busting on the bubble? If we had made it into the $$ it would be a no brainer shove. Do most of you gamble there and try to get some more chips to get better chances of a deeper run or just hold off playing it? just wondering if im being too results oriented or if I should just go for it all day every day in that same spot... just trying to plug my midgame leaks.. thnx

So are you advising a fold, a shove, a min-raise or what?
he's saying that your main goal should be to win the tournament even if you have to put yourself at risk near the bubble. so hes saying shove it in.

In which case he is talking out of his hat. Trying to win is foolish - making +EV decisions is where it's at.

It's standard play that if you are going to play a hand with less than 10BB shove it all in, which is what OP should have done. The villain should have done the same. Given that they didn't and are looking at a dry flop then the hero's bet is fine.

I am replying to this above post, which is why I quoted it.

Of course you shove, I posted that two posts above mine. I was replying to the question of whether folding AK near the bubble instead of shoving is a good play.

Making +EV decisions leads to winning :)
