1st & 50th pays the same, so do you think you can fold your way to top 50 with stack you have?

if all the prizes are the same and that close I would and have folded aa against a shove to put me allin. why risk a bad beat if you can fold and get the same prize first place is getting.

I personally don't like to play scared. The question Kenzie asks is whether you think you can fold your way to top 50 with your stack. In 36th place, with 58 players left, I think it would be real close. Some of the short stacks are going to get chipped up, while some players will lose chips. By the time the bubble comes around, you'll probably find yourself on one of the short stacks, tyring to hold on and hoping that someone else will get knocked out before you get blinded off.

I don't know if I would shove A-K here, or just raise with it and leave myself a way out if I miss the flop. But I don't think I would fold it either. Like I said, from 36th with 58 left is probably going to be close. I would be trying to take advantage of a hand like this to build myself a little cushion, so I don't end up biting my nails at the end. If it's a fold or shove choice, I'd shove. But that's just me.

So with 15bb's, facing a big loose stack limper in UTG... you're going to raise how much with intentions of folding flop?
Personally this sounds like a terrible plan.

If HERO folds, this isn't suggesting he's going to continue folding in hopes of making the bubble. As long as he can try to maintain a stack with fold equity, there will likely be spots he can get it in later if need be.
It's a satellite. Winning this hand doesn't win him two tickets.

He has all kinds of 'equity' to lose. He's in a freeroll that has ~1,700 entrants, he's very close to cashing for $109. How do you figure that is 'nothing to lose'?

Also, he already is 'far in thoes things'... he's on the verge of taking down a $109 ticket.
I also don't think shoving AK over one limper would be considered 'loose aggressive' (or 'lose' aggressive.. perhaps ;) ).

If this was a tournament it is a shove 100% of the time. In a satellite, maybe not... 'it depends'.

Like most decisions i would rather be shoving than calling. In this situation i would probably fold.

If you feel like you can fold to the top 50 then use the clock and fold every hand, if not than you should shove because just calling with only 15 BBs left accomplishes nada. Either you miss and are crippled or you hit the ace or king and bet then the other player folds or hits a set.

thanks for the comment, very innovation, learns a lot!

so,

the key point, if I understand correctly, is that:

I would pass this fairly range to trade the risk of being knocked out! and stay in the game,

not fold everyhand, but I could find other better chance like using my stack to bully other shortstack for survival, while avoid to directly against luckybox big stack.

and because it is a ticket game, no difference in payout structure, so it is not worth to risk that much, if weigh the loss [4 hours of effect to potential gain a ticket] and gain [potential to all in others]

;);););)

LAG gets you nowhere fast in a freeroll because everyone's playing laggy to the point of insanity. 90% of the time you get a shove and two callers preflop.

Unfortunately you also have the problem that blinds increase like every 5 minutes and you start with M>25 to begin with, so playing tight is often not that much better.

I would play, it's a free roll and they have them twice a week. The reason I say that is the way you put your question, you must think there's a chance you wouldn't make the top 50. If you think you're going to easily make it then fold. If you think you're not going to make it, and you have a good hand, then play.

fold it unless you have a good enough stack to make the other player fold after limping, then shove

With 22 players below you folding every single hand would mean 22 other players will be all in by choice or forced all in before you. Not only that but players like CronicFlash (see his post above) play like its a regular tournament and may have great hand to start but may lose and fall below you also. Since you only need to outlast 8 you have great odds of cashing by never playing another hand. Playing to get into a "min cash" situation is different than playing to get into top 50 and yes you do have something to lose in a freeroll, not only time put in already but a great chance at that ticket. Slow play in this situation can also be helpful, until hand for hand, with multiple tables if you are at a table that plays 1 hand every 4 min and other tables are playing 1 hand every 2 min not only are you saving blinds but others are getting closer to getting blinded in.

I would actually like to know how it went. Did you actually try to fold your way in? How did it work out? Did you make it in?
