The quote is loosely paraphrased from Rounders, which is just a movie, but Doyle wrote about it before I was born.

"If it's good enough for a call, you need to be in there raising."

Generally speaking, I'm in agreement with this. Even though it appears to suggest that when faced with a bet if you're going to call anyway you should raise. That IS NOT IT AT ALL. It is saying, if you *would* call a bet, but you're either first to act or it has been checked to you THEN show some moxie.

The only caveat I would toss on there is when you feel your opponent has pretty much nothing, your bet would take it down, which is fine, but you consider trying to siphon off a few more chips by giving him a chance to bluff at it.

Happy to hear counter-points!

in general i am an aggresive player and have always been i agree that the raise is not always the way to go but sucking chios away from other players slowly works just as well for me and i assume most players you know when to pull the trigger and when to slowplay based on what u have picked up on your fellow player/players at the table

I posted a pic yesterday where I had raise in EP with 88 and flopped the stone cold nuts. Because there was an 8 of spades and a 4 of spades on board, redraws to str8 flush could beat me and runner runner quads (from a higher PP) could also occur. But checking on the flop, inducing both stacks to shove all in drawing practically dead made me feel good. Only because I've had plenty of times where the runner runner miracle did come and you were sent packing.

Cases like this with stone cold nuts is one of the few times I slow down, just because there is so little equity in any other combos. You have to give them a chance to have something to call with.
