I have recently recieved criticism from other poker players that I am not agressive enough at the table. I seem to always think of what cards my opponent might have that could beat me and assume he has them.
I have been working on figureing out the odds of how stroung my hand is and acting on it. I have found on-line poker is very different than live poker in this respect. One has to learn to be much more aggressive playing on-line!! Do you aggree?

In general Id agree and say online poker is more aggressive. Its good that your thinking about opponents ranges and odds. Its not always correct to be super monkey-aggressive, but there are times were you can exploit weak opponents. Alot of it comes with practice and understanding what an opponents 'line' means on based on their position and stack size and thinking about what a bet/check/call accomplishes v opponents range

Yes and no, don't concern yourself too much with it just keep improving your game.

There are situations where you need to be aggressive and there are a lot where you need to be passive too.
The only adjustment towards being more aggressive that most passive players really need to make is to raise or fold, you should only very rarely call. Continuing from that, don't limp. There are a couple of spots early in MTT/SNG where you should limp but very few and as good as none past the first few levels.

If you want to take aggression further, consider the importance of blinds (it's a lot) and attack them from the button and give them up when callenged and you're in the blinds.

And if you haven't already; learn a decent shove/fold game for when you're in high blinds. Call/folding or Raise/folding in the late stages is frequently as good as burning money.

I too am very tight. I read Harrington's books,"Harrington On Holdem" and have discovered how to raise that aggression. You must be patient, keep playing your game, set a table image, and then you can use that table image to make moves, steal pots, and win more pots easily.
You must be careful not be too aggressive as that can give an image of a loose player and you will be called when you don't want to be.

It takes some practice, at least it did for me, to change one's style.

The thing is you don't have to be afraid your opponent has the nuts, since you can find out with a bet. Play reasonable but don't be afraid to put your chips out there, playing tight is fine, playing passive is bad most of the time.

The key is finding the right spots to be aggresive in and is an aspect of the game I am working on this month, I have made a few misteps using mindless aggresion but I realised my passive play is losing me chances to increase my chip count (I play sngs). So I am working on finding what types of players fold to my aggresion and getting as much as I can out of them and trying to play more and steal more around the bubble without putting myself in situations where I have commited too many chips in a hand I am losing. Nothing in poker is more satisfying as stealing the blinds with a weaker holding beacause your pretty sure you will win them. Of course there is no reason to get silly and start raising everyhand espically against a calling station because you will find yourself in a bad way with a awfull hand.

On line poker is too agressive. Thats because if u get down, is only open another table.

Be agressive at the right time, thats the key!

What if you folded everytime you didn't have the nuts on the river?

On the turn?

On the flop?

Preflop?

LOL

Ask yourself this, why do you you assume your opponents have you beat so frequently? What range of hands has your opponent played in his/her position before? Do all of your oponnents actions throughout the hand tell the same story?

I find that I'm too aggressive. That is one weakness that Hem told me I have. I have tried to play tighter and wait until the turn to fire out the big raise but I was getting beat a lot on the river when I let the hands get drawn out. I still have to figure the balance. I try to play premium hands only but i get beat with rags, trips or flushs. Still working on pot odds for calling.
