Afternoon all!

After throwing my dummy out of the pram about a month back i desided to use some BRM and head back to SNG with a roll of $50. In the past i have understood BRM but can finally admit never followed it correctly and results suffered last year all the way up until March this year. Im playing 4 tables a time and are signed up for rakeback. I understand that this is a structure that can have a wide variance range and also takes quite some time investment to show whats going on but i have a total of 195 $1 STT stats here and think my ROI should be a little higher tbh and wondered if there is something people could spot that im doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any advice i get and also if there is any other info needed please say.

Honestly. I can only suggest learning proper SNG concepts and strategy. Take the late game for example, there is only one correct way to play. When the blinds get high, it comes down to what hands to shove and what hands to fold in certain situations. Learning basic ICM is critical at getting good at SNG's.

Just glancing at your stats, it looks to me like you are playing to tight late game, but it's over only 200 games, it just isn't a big enough sample size to draw too many conclusions without actually watching you play.

One last thing, the rake on most $1 games is really high, 17-20% in some cases, with a rake that high, it's really difficult to beat them long term. As mentioned, i would buy a book, sign up to a poker training site, post some hands in the forums here in the HA section and then deposit some more money in and start out with a decent bankroll. $50 isn't a lot, id rather you put in some more and play the $3 games where the rake is a bit better.

Thanks for your speedy reply!

I have in the past sat down and had a read of a few poker books but not since ive been allocating more time to poker than ever before and i feel im finally of the mindset to take a step forward.

What books do you recommend? I want to stay here in SNG untill im able to maybe turn my hand to 25NL+ cash poker but thats quite far away right now.

I know the rake is high ($1+.20) was looking at the $2 as the rake is almost the same as maybe somewhere to start then? Have not really took to the poker training sites, again what do you recommend?

I think it may be as close as even today that i have finally stepped up my aggression at the later stages so maybe another 100 will tell the difference?

Thanks again

I personally havent read any SNG books, but i've heard a lot of good things about the collin moshman book.

I believe you can get a free one week subscription to "dragthebar" but for SNG's i recommend PokerVT or SNG grinders.

100 games isn't a lot. your looking to play at least 1000 games before you know if your a winning player, and 3000 before you can pin down your ROI.
Thanks again

The moshman book is great.

Your ROI is actually not that bad considering you are playing 20% rake.
If you were paying 10% rake your ROI would be 11.6%.

I would definitely move to $2 because the rake is so much lower.

Not as simple as just moving up, i know its probably the right thing to do but i'd need to increase BR (almost double) as i want to force myself to stick to perfect BRM. I'll do it when i come back from holiday (Vegas funny enough)

Is that correct my ROI at 10% rake would be 11.6%? I do get rakeback but it does make a significant difference to ROI!

Burning my way through Moshmans book right now so should be back at the felt shortly

ROI Simulator Play around with that for a bit, should give you some good ideas of waht you can expect, in terms of variance, and Approx. ROI.

Rakeback adds a lot to your ROI, can add roughly 2%, in games where maximum ROI is usually around 10%, this is significant.

Oh, sorry, must have missed your responce.

Ok so, check out the top it has # of simulations and games per simulation. that should be straight forward enough.

Next, you need to pull up and work out your payout structures and input that data in there. so for example a $55 buy in pays 250 for first, 150 2nd, 100 3rd. Just hop into poker stars, check out the payout structures for whatever game you play, and input those details.

next to that, you have a column which reads %, that is your win % distribution. For a really decent player a distribution of 13/11/12 would be close to ideal, But just input what your distribution is, either get that info from a tracker, or search yourself on sharkscope, or just input a rough guess to what % you think you can cash.

Ill input my details for the 3.40 mans and put a screenie on for you, it's a really handy tool for working out what sort of ROI and variance you can expect from any level.

I have to go to work now, but if you need help figuring out what those numbers mean, im happy to try and explain them.
