Hi:

I'm planning a trip to Vegas. I arrive in the late afternoon during the week and then stay over the weekend. Do any of you have any recommendations for the best tournaments to play in on the Strip? I'm interested in tournaments that start around 7 pm during the week, and anytime on the weekends. Do the tournaments during the week draw a lot of players, or are they dead? Also, how skilled is the play in these live Vegas tournaments?

TIA.

Unsure if you're inquiring about std daily/weekly tournaments since specific dates not indicated?

I'm not a live tournament player so unable to provide any recommendations regarding the std on-going tourneys.

The Deep Stack Extravaganza is going on @ the Venetian until 02.25 (started 01.29) & the Wynn Classic begins 02.24 & runs until 03.17 though, if that's helpful?

what is your buy-in max? The mirage is a great place to play, they also have 24hr Sit&Go's.

last hotel on the right

I haven't been there in a couple of years - which mean the whole place looks different.
Last I was there: at the second last hotel on the strip, go past Circus Circus, if you hit the Stratosphere you've gone too far. I think it's called the Oasis, but again, it could be gone.
Anyway, they used to have two tournaments every night drawing around 200 players each. The first started around 8 and the second after midnight. The buy-in was around $150. It was a good tournament, good players, some said a few pro's played but I recognized no one, and the entire final table was paid.
I found that a few players were good, but most were just cocky. If someone was winning the whole room seemed to know, and they'd be sitting at tables away from that player discussing his style of play. Very interesting for someone who was just learning to play live.

The Venetian has a good tournament at 7pm most nights.

I think Tookie is talking about the Sahara but that's nearer the $70 mark. Soft as hell but the structure can get away from you towards the end.

Venetian is great but I have a feeling the noon one is better (check allvegaspoker).

May be worth checking out the Mirage now as well. Relatively new management there (ex TI I think) and trying to improve their tournaments.

I know it is probably a little late now but for the players heading to Vegas, there is a webpage called Las Vegas Poker source and it also has good info. on dailys and special events. Hope that helps.
