Hello guys, I hope you are all doing fine. I have 5 thousand dollars laying around and of course will playing in on ACR in the big one next month. Now my goal is to somehow (overtime) be able to get my 5k to at least 20k or more by the summer. Now I will be putting in work myself as I will be using everything I've learned in poker in a couple of years now. Question is, should I stick to big High Stake Tourney's on ACR and also kind of stake some players for a percentage, etc.?

Do you guys believe that sticking to tournaments will help me get my goal? or should I try 10/5nl cash games?

What do you think is the best strategy to manage my bankroll from 5k to 20 or more.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I wish I had 5K lying around. You make it sound like pocket change. LOL.

Anyway, as far as what to play, why not a combination of both MTTs and cash games? You can play select tournaments when they're running and cash games in between.

I think the most important thing is you follow good BRM and you're starting at a level that you can beat. Just because you have 5K and follow a 100-200+ buy-in BRM for MTTs doesn't mean you have to start playing at the $25-$50 buy-in MTTs if you can't even beat $10 MTTs for a significant sample size. The same goes for gash games.

I have not posted on here in a long while(life happens) but have to agree with philthy and his Caitlin Jenner avatar(lol).
Play at levels you are comfortable with and can beat on a consistent basis.
Good luck on the 24th :)

Last time I played an MTT was the last time they had the million last november I got in it through the $80 dollar sattelite and finished in 49th place out of like 2000 players that played. I am quite good in mtts honestly. I play more comfortable than cash games. Just because in cash games everyone is kinda tight, where as in tournaments people are forced to make moves and mistakes as levels go

As long as you have experience playing online in the games you are playing you should be able to run it up . I think sticking to reasonable BR strategies will be important to avoid getting clipped by variance . If you are gonna play mtt poker , I would advise having at least 100-150 buyins for whatever games you are playing but taking a shot here or there for example in the big sunday tournaments is ok . If you are playing cash games you can be a little more lax with BR management and play with something like 25-40 buyins and just adjust for the swings up or down. GL at the tables !

You state your good at tournaments we'll stick with what you have the edge in, you can chew through that 5k quick if your going the cash game route and multi tabling. There is a better chance of better cash faster in the cash games, maybe ur not afraid of losing the money with 5k laying around , if that's the case play cash
