Hi, new to the forums. I have the opportunity to play in a live $120 Buy-in, $100 bounty reentry MTT that they say usually draws about 40 buy-ins. Starting stacks are 15,000. I was wondering if anyone has advice on the differences/disadvantages/advantages in play in bounty tourneys. It would be a high buy in for me (usually stay in the $50-100 range), so I'm a bit concerned and am wondering if it might be money better spent at a cash table. I only have this one day to play while on travel and have been jonesing to play for awhile. I get most of my practice/playing on NLOP these days. Thx!

PS: is there a search feature on the mobile site?

Personally, i try to avoid bounty tournaments whenever i can because players tend to play very aggressive in those ones and that makes it's biggest disadvantage... In first stage of your game i would suggest you to be patient and wait for big pockets, AK suited or so in order to get yourself in action- be tight in early stage ;)
Anyways, like allin or fold, bounty tourneys are good for fun, so have fun buddy ;) and GL

3bet shove with any premium such as AK+.You are likely to get caller and double up in this kind of format.

Tight-Agressive remember that...
But online a lot of people calls with junk to win the bounty, I only call with good hands, but if you have a big stack, sometimes calls with T9 , QJ is profitable, because of the bounty..

The idea of a bounty tournament is fun and great, but the players are usually spastic. People shove nearly every chance they get. If that is something you can adjust to, then go for it. If you usually play $50-100, then a $120 buy in shouldn't be too far our of your comfort zone.

If you've never played a KO tourney before though I would highly recommend you avoid this tourney until you have played some lower buy in KO tourneys to get a feel for the aggressiveness.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think I will play my usual tight aggressive game until I get a feel for the people at my table. The initial deep stack should help with that. I've cashed at this poker room before and it's a lot of regulars but that was before I really started studying how to play so I'm hopeful, even tho the total buy-in is out of my usual range.

The knockout adds some extra value to the villians stack (as long as you have them covered), so you have to play a little looser and more aggressively than usual because some of your equity is on the table ready to be picked up.

So I played my regular game without taking bounties into account. I didn't win any bounties because I remained short stacked until the final three. Then I got very aggressive and managed to bring my stack from 20,000 to about 170,000 by the third break, which is about six hours into the tournament. Then I held approximately one third of the chips and negotiated a chop for a third of the remaining prize pool, which was about 10% above second place.. Think it was a good deal for everyone since after six hours we were all starting to see things LOL. Thanks for the advice folks!

Honestly, if you're used to play $100 tournaments it's not that big for you. KO Tournaments were the ones I have most fun of it. Really, intense playing and when you play tight, it's well profitable at early stages so.. go for it. If you find any one with a lower buy in (think there's a 4 dollars SNG one in PS) try it to see how the game works.

Then, post your earnings here so we can know how it was for you!

I think bouties are good cuz if you eliminate the player you can get lets say if you give 120$ buy in you can get 20$ for each player eliminated. But anyway i reccommend tight/aggressive play, on good cards and good board you have to be aggressive to KO the player and get his chips and some bonus $.
Gl at the tournament!

From past experience, I try to stay away from bounty tournaments for various reasons such as loss of profit.
