I am playing in a live Tourney tonight with a £30 buyin plus one rebuy or addon for £30..There will be about 20 runners with a starting stack of 10k, 20min blinds and no ante's.The addon will be for a further 10k chips. The question is would it be +EV to get an early advantage and take the addon straight away. The reason being that if you wait until the addon period there will already be some very large stacks. Also if you hadn't taken the addon and have a decent stack would you still take the addon when available.

I think you mean the initial re-buy - yes always do it and always do the add-on - otherwise don't play in a re-buy tournament. It is insane to not take extra chips when they are available. It takes a great deal of luck to win a re-buy tournament that you don't re-buy or add-on in.

That's on top of the great deal of luck you need anyway lol.

I agree, a initial re-buy is important, and the add-on too, but let me give you one advise, do not re-buy a lot of times, do net let yourself be in a situation of tilt that can make you lost a good amount of your bankroll, playing re-buy tournaments requires a good discipline :)

There is only one rebuy aloud or one addon,so the max you can spend is £60.

So my decision may be based on how many others take the add on straight away.As this is a local game with a lot of regulars there might not be many that rebuy's straight away..

No - you should do it even if you are the only one who does. (not going to happen).

The person who ends up with all of the chips wins the tournament - never pass up an opportunity to increase yours.

Do it. Big stack is important early.

I made the mistake of not adding on when I first started playing re buys. A lot of people think that its more profitable to spend less money but its actually negative EV because purchasing the add on helps you immensely in placing higher thus outweighing the additional purchase. Would you rather finish 5th and pay for an add on or 20th with no add on? I would also definitely re buy early instead of later ESPECIALLY if less people are re buying because then everyone else is going to be short stacked to you and you can apply pressure. If you add on later you'll just be playing catch up where as if you rebuy early you'll be giving yourself a huge edge over everyone who doesn't. I always play my re buy and add on games assuming that I'm going to pay for the add on now, if you don't you're really handicapping yourself.

Just because some of the live regs dont do something doesnt make it correct. One reason some players dont rebuy right away is because they have a tight approach to BRM, because they are not confident in their edge against a certain feild (ie one with a lot of players better than you) which is total illogical. You would want to preserve as much of your equity for as long as you can till you 'get lucky' and having the extra chips allows you to do that. Now if you think you have an edge on the field then you want those chips so u can realize that edge by have more survivability in mid and late stages when short stacks start blinding out quicker.

Do the rebuy/add-on right away at the onset of the tourney.

Let's say you don't and you get in a huge pot, all - in, vs. someone who has

bought the rebuy. You have 10k chips and villain has 20k, the most you can do is

take half his stack. If you had bought the rebuy, you would have equal stacks and

you could take all his chips. Then you would move that much closer to taking it

down. I always play a rebuy with the plan that I will rebuy and addon for the

"freechips"

I think if multiple rebuys are allowed it is a no brainer to do the add on.

But its either or in this scenario. Everyone is good at different types of poker games even different holdem types. I'm really good at short stack so having two opportunities to do it would suit my style. Its pretty tight play.

It loosens up ur play a bit not scared to go allin with cards cause u got a second chance not condoning J10 allins but JJ allin is less scary. If you like to bet a lot and bluff or just like calling a lot having a big stack would do it.

I hate multiple rebuy tourneys... a lot of stupid play goes on so I usually wait till the break to buyin but in this scenario. I would play from the start. There so many bad beats that can happen and personally having that second chance is invaluable in poker. Even the biggest stack can get crushed with bad luck.

My advise... if ur confident of short stack play or play super tight do the rebuy thing. If u don't regularly last 30+ min as last place umm or uncomfortable when blinds get pricey go addon. Regardless u can't go wrong its preference if only one rebuy is allowed... main thing is to play good.
