Hey guys!

This can apply to online or live.

I play in a bar. They have a backroom for daily poker SnG. They do a free event where they put in 1000$ (10000$ if you need a bigger incentive) but draw the 18 spots available out of a hat from everyone in the bar. How do you play differently in that freeroll setting?

As a poker motto, I try not to adapt to buyins for my tactics. I try not to see chips as real money to be able to focus on the math and the dance.

But when others, randoms or new players, dont adapt to that and become LAG out of the freeness of the thing (or a rich, played twice, doesn’t care of a X amount buyin or rebuy) dont play with even the notion of odds and that it’s not 1-2 players you can sit left of but like 2/3rds of the player pool.

What do you do?

I know the « be happy you will win overall » but mind it that not playing infinity games I don’t necessarily want to rely on normalisation..

I understand you use the high calling chance to maximise your power hands.. but how do you set a decent VPIP againt 10B non calculated bets?

In that situation Tight is right. Play your premium hands like a maniac and you will win easy.

You will need to take calculated risk in these game. Re-raise them and be willing to go all in lighter that usual if you are getting it heads up vs some crazy player. I used to play in the bar leagues and some of them will call with such crap its not funny.

it implies having the time to. With more than one, you can’t 3bb pre flop. Every 3 hands someone’s pushing pre flop.

Either a decent player gets a decent timing or the LAGs stack and then it’s 10bb+ each time.

Considering AA and QQ will often have less than 70%, can you afford 3 outta 10 loss on those? Normalization can take what 1 tournament to 6 months?

Then just play tighter.
OR
Play loose and rely on luck of the cards - as the opponents are doing, but Tight is MORE Right.

10bb open = Fold - Fold - Fold - Fold - Fold - Fold - until you get a premium then play it aggressive!
