Ok, so this is what was happening. I had just few hands beforehand knocked two players out and consequently almost tripled up. This made me the chip leader on my table by far; I think about two players had about half my stack and the rest probably had about a quarter of my stack. There were 7 players including me all up. I had knocked out the aggressive players out, so there were 2 calling stations and 3 loose passive players who could be aggressive under the right scenarios, which rarely happened it seemed(they weren't calling stations because they knew how to fold)

So, a new player came to the table, he is the 7th player. He had about double my chip stack so I was a little concerned. The game, which was a live game, had been going for about 45 minutes at that time, so it was very likely that he was simply a donkey that doubled up fast. I had no reads whatsoever about this player; I never played/seen him before. I complimented him on his large stack to which he said something like, (nah, this is nothing) This game me the impression that he's probably aggressive/confident. He was sitting on the left to me.

The hand after he sat down I was dealt A9 suited; I was two positions before the button, and I can't remember if one of the calling stations to the right of me limped in or not, I don't think they did though because I cannot remember them calling the flop. Sorry for not be sure of this vital piece of information. The blinds where 300/600 and it was a turbo tournament; I had 15000 chips and decided to raise it to 1500. The new player to the table called me and the flop came AQ10 rainbow. I made a continuation bet of 2000 chips to which he called. I was a bit concerned here because I realised many hands had me beaten but I raised once again to 3500 on the turn, he then pushed all in. The turn was a blank card. I had no reads on him whatsoever, but I thought that I would be beaten here a great deal of the time. I had 7000 chips left and there would have been 11400 chips in the pot. I decided to call since I thought I could not fold and I guess I was hoping he had a weak ace or just a crap player trying to chase a draw or something(it was at a pub game and there are some wild plays at times)

Did I make the correct play here? I was asking my peers and one of them said that I was not position; I thought that that was a decent position but he said that it was not good enough and I should have just called rather then raised. Opinions anyone? Oh, and did I miss out any information? I wasn't close to the bubble at all.

I think I would have folded. It was a dangerous flop for A9 and it didn't make sense for him to shove with anything that didn't have you beat. Unless I knew the guy was a donk that shoved anything, I wouldn't call with TP and a weak kicker.
On the turn I would have c/r'ed to have a clearer view of where I was at in the hand. But that's just me.

Thats a problem many times...
Do not think that every player with a big stack is a donkey!
Maybe he got AA and got called by many donkeys.
If you decide to raise with A9 you have to cotinue your play like you did....

I think that you have made a mistake having answered on all-in.... Your hand was too weak and flop was very dangerous. А9s a quite good hand for stealling in a position, but after call the opponent on flop I do not think that you should to continue put up money in bank.... Especially the opponent has shown that flop it accepted also it is interested.

Could easily have called your raise pre-flop with AT, TT, AQ or KJ...

A9 suited is a good hand to lead out with until you hit your ace. Really you're just hoping for the nut flush or 2 pair. Gotta be ready to lay it down.

Suited or not, I probably. would have folded the A9. I'm not a big fan of playing the rag aces without the straight possibilities aka. A-6 to A-9 range

Like many have said I probably would have folded A9. AQT is a scary flop as is and when he called the flop I would have slowed down especially because you had no information on the villain. I usually dont play turbos so not exactly if there is a different strategy to playing those, but I think you were fine until the turn where I would have check/folded to a bet. (although I normally dont play A9 anyway)
