what if there was an online tourny that paid alot of people good, but no big winners like most tournys.

instead of giving all the money to top 3 divide it up more evenly.

example $5.00 buy in, 2000 people, $10,000 prize, 20% paid

400-200 $10
199-150 $20
149-100 $30
99-50 $40
49-20 $50
19-10 $75
9-5 $100
top 4 slit $917 some how

good players could consistantly make money. i would play these exclusively if this existed. what do you guys think about it?

the payouts are kinda a rough draft but you get the point.

I think this is an awesome idea. In a way it reminds me of the old sng where it payed half the people double the buy in. If it was a 5 dollar sng it payed 10 dollars to the top 5. Kind of similar but not really. However, I think your structure would be best suited for a turbo style tournament because it would take out some of the luck by paying 20% of players and since you are forced to play worse hands by the blinds in turbo tournaments, it lowers the chance that the best player will win anyways so it helps that the people who barely make the money win more. In a tournament with great blind structure however, this style would probably not be as well liked because better players typically are able to finish higher consistently in these due to the ability to wait for hands and stuff.

Bovada has some "Beginner" sit and gos. They are normal games except they pay out a larger field. It's not exactly the same thing you're talking about, but it's close. It's also very limited (highest I have seen is $8+$0.8 and 27 people).

Would be an interesting concept if it caught on.

It could be a good bankroll builder tournament I guess. Final table probably plays like a DON though so it would need to be a turbo before I get bored lol

I think it's a great idea! A lot of people chop at the top 2 or 3 anyhow, so just build it into the payout structure.

+1, I was gonna say this. It primarily is only used in multi table SnGs (as explained above, Bovada's maximum people is 27)

when i was allowed on pokerstars i saw the 100 triple or nothing, and i dont like that idea, it just makes the bubble to big to enjoy the tourny. i just want a normal tourny that you dont have to win to make money

Some of the guaranteed tournaments with a large payout is spread out a little better, but first 2nd third does get the lion's share.

I saw that they have beginner MTTs on Bovada, today. There's those. I am not sure how wide the money is spread compared to normal games. I didn't look too closely.

I took some of the advice from this thread. I am not a tournament player. I do OK, but they're just not my game. So my Bovada points are pretty useless. I turned some of them into a $5.+$0.50 ticket and jumped into a quadruple up. Got into the money and turned my points into $20. I feel like I don't sacrifice much EV when I play stuff like that, since I am not super +EV in normal tournaments.
