Hi guys,

Lately i have been playing tournaments on Full Tilt. In terms of buy in, bank roll is not too much of an issue. I have been doing well playing the $26, $44, $75 buy in tournaments. I was on about 5 final tables in the span of two days and cashing decently at one point.

As of two days ago I just cannot win and am now negative profit. I am playing the same style and the same game. Every coin flip situation tends to favour the other person. If I have QQ and they have AK they will hit. If I have AK and someone has JJ I will not hit. This is happening over and over which put me on tilt and I blew a lot of money. Regardless of skill level there is always an element of luck which I just don't have at the moment.

Im just wondering if this type of downswing is normal to go on a losing streak that doesn't look like its turning around anytime soon for absolutely no reason at all. Anyone got any tips to overcome it?

Thanks

That's why I wrote on the other thread - after you win some, you will lose some, or the other way, after you lose some, you will win some...

MTT have a lot of variance and i would say 25-50 buy in down swing isnt uncommon. if you are making correct plays then just stay patient and dont play when your tilted.

Simply put, people will make rediculous calls no matter what stakes you are on, you will get outdrawn often, as long as your making it in the final 3 now and again you should be fine, you should be ok as long as you are a better player then the opponents so pick your battles wisely.

Are you wasting chips on hands that are speculative when you dont have the correct implied odds, it can be deadly, the opponent if he figures you out which at those stakes they will, then you will struggle to outplay them and are forced to play your cards which is a losing strategy.

Good luck

I think this is normal downswing, and when you win some abviously that you can lose some. Last week was pretty intense to me i didnt play your levels but, i was +120$ profit from MTTs and cash games and then i lost them all, lost coin flip QQ VS AK , set on flop beaten by flush on river and so on, so as you win you can lose. Just play your game and avoid tilt... because this is what really sucks, not our luck..

Variance can affect you for a long time and the way your talking, it sounds awfully short. Tournament variance is sky high because a big aspect to it, is winning flips.

that is like a session for most people lol, i know plenty of good winning players north of 200-300 BI's

depends on the stakes and field size but honestly just keep playing well and put the volume in

you might be forgetting the times you get lucky and outdraw people

I personally can vouch for variance lasting for 30+ tourneys or more.

That's why I personally like to have 100 times the buy-in in my bankroll for whatever MTT level I'm playing at.

And if things get really bad I might drop down a buy-in level for awhile until my variance swings the other way.

That's your mistake right there, you could have used the lot of money you blew and recover . My advise is when your hitting a bad spell. Take some time off to free your mind and do something else. You might be surprise to find out how much mistakes your are making by doing this. Good luck.

100 is honestly low tbh 200-300 is safe bc you likely will not have to move down after a 30-40 BI downswing

I'd say the best way to combat this variance is to lower the limits you play in. So if you are play $25 tourneys, go all the way down to $1 tourneys until you feel like you are back to your old self again. No one likes to lower their limits when he or she has worked so hard to get up to that leve, but sometimes this is the best way to get through a losing streak without letting it effect your bankroll too badly.

So my advice would be, STOP playing your normal buy-ins and START playing the lowest limits you can.......do that for a week or two or until you are sure you are back to your old self again
