So decided to jump into a few games on 888 - this was a $1 sit and go, it was bubble and only had 25 hands with him so not much info here, he was average on VP here too, so pretty tight player, should I have called, were there many flush hands with either a J or a Q or any bluffs that he could of had

I probably would have fired at the flop as an ace is certainly within range of an initial raiser. Ideally you take it down there. If not then shut it down. As it is you essentially let him have it.

I would have bet the flop to see where you stood in the hand. A call would almost certainly DQ you from any further action. Waiting to see where you stood in the hand until there were 2 additional cards on the board that beat you was a mistake, although you likely didn't lost any more money in the event that he held an Ace.

old school poker dictates a check as you dont lose any money and if a bet comes you fold as you put him on Ax range... new school poker as mentioned above dictates putting a bet in, as this means you are representing the Ace, and chances are your opponent didnt hit. so take your pick as to how you play... both are good thoughts with valid reasons

Bet 3-4BB on the flop, take it down 80% of the time. ;)

Not betting the flop gives up a TON of equity!
