All players known mtt league poker winners. Play with them most weeks and have an idea on how they play.

Down to last 3, ive got 14 k, in the BB for 1k, button folds sb calls,sb has a couple mre chips than I and 3rd place has half our stacks. I check K2h. Flop Ks 2s 5h, I check hoping for action from my usually aggressive friend, he checks behind, turn Ac, I bet 2k hoping he has an A and he flat calls. River 9d, I bet 4k, he thinks for a while, then goes all in. I call saying have an ace have an ace and lose his straight.

Was I strong enough to slow play this hand long run? or with the poor 2nd pair did the pot need shutting down on the flop?

I think I was too weak on the flop, and perhaps had I gone all in he would have folded, but in this situation with 2 pair on the flop I thought I was pretty strong and ready to take a few more chips off this guy.

Incidentally, it was my beautiful partner who was in 3rd pos, so with one uf us getting 2nd anyway we made our buyin back.

Incidentally in the final hand of the tourney villain min raises his BB, to 2k,
sb calls holding 44, flop comes 10 9 3 and villain goes all in then says "I have ak, I just thought that would take it. My hero says, "I have pockets", then you should call he says, its a race. Hero thinks long and hard and in the end is goaded into calling. Villain has KK and says oh I thought it was AK laughs and collects 1st.

Now is this ok? are we ok with this and should do it at every opportunity to our opponent and exploit every read or weakness we can and expect our opps to pull this kind of caper at any moment, or lie in order to win?

This is not my style, Im proud of being an honorable player and would not consider verbally manipulating a potentially folding player to call by lying to them about the strength of my hand. Or blatantly lying about my holding. Looking forward to hearing comments on the "honour" of a poker player.

In a multi-way pot, I would definitely bet the two pair on the flop for fear of being counterfeited, but in your case I think I would check too, especially given your read. Good spot for a check raise and if he has something like KQ he's probably getting it in after you raise. As played, calling the river is hard. The question is, what hands do you beat? If you think villain would make this move with a strong/mid ace (AQ/AJ/AT) then you might pull it off. KQ would make no sense at this stage because you bet the ace so he would have to be bluffing in that case. I would be more worried about A9/AK/A5 or A2. Alot of players like weak aces and would limp those hands, and he probably put you on an ace with a decent kicker like AJ.

There's also the small possibility he's slowplaying 22, 55, or even aces.

In regards to the final hand- first of all, it's not a race anymore when the flop hits with no A or K. Hero would be roughly 75% to win the hand at that point with pocket 4's- therefore villain's attempt to goad you to call should look suspicious. Furthermore, I'm not going to speak for everyone else here, but I never trust the villain in poker. Poker is a game of deception- trust the villain's behavior and his tells, not what he says. Ignoring what he says and instead just looking at how he played, the pot doesn't appear big enough to be bluffed at (but I could be wrong). Furthermore, he could be doing this with a number of pocket pairs that have 4's rocked, and he is slightly ahead if he has a hand like QJ. So it's probably a fold (although this is easy to say when we know the results).

I think there is even a rule in some casinos where you are not allowed to say your hand. You can LIE about your hand, but you can't tell the truth about it. I remember reading that in OzExorcist's thread here: https://www.cardschat.com/forum/general-poker-13/playing-live-what-you-need-know-114205/ Of course, this is a homegame, so anything goes.

The guy was silly for listening to him and his AK story.

Bluffing is lying in itself, lying is a significant part of poker, therefore lie all you want.
