Down to last 3, ive got 14 k, in the BB for 1k, button folds sb calls,sb has a couple mre chips than I and 3rd place has half our stacks. I check K2h. Flop Ks 2s 5h, I check hoping for action from my usually aggressive friend, he checks behind, turn Ac, I bet 2k hoping he has an A and he flat calls. River 9d, I bet 4k, he thinks for a while, then goes all in. I call saying have an ace have an ace and lose his straight.
Was I strong enough to slow play this hand long run? or with the poor 2nd pair did the pot need shutting down on the flop?
I think I was too weak on the flop, and perhaps had I gone all in he would have folded, but in this situation with 2 pair on the flop I thought I was pretty strong and ready to take a few more chips off this guy.
Incidentally, it was my beautiful partner who was in 3rd pos, so with one uf us getting 2nd anyway we made our buyin back.
Incidentally in the final hand of the tourney villain min raises his BB, to 2k,
sb calls holding 44, flop comes 10 9 3 and villain goes all in then says "I have ak, I just thought that would take it. My hero says, "I have pockets", then you should call he says, its a race. Hero thinks long and hard and in the end is goaded into calling. Villain has KK and says oh I thought it was AK laughs and collects 1st.
Now is this ok? are we ok with this and should do it at every opportunity to our opponent and exploit every read or weakness we can and expect our opps to pull this kind of caper at any moment, or lie in order to win?
This is not my style, Im proud of being an honorable player and would not consider verbally manipulating a potentially folding player to call by lying to them about the strength of my hand. Or blatantly lying about my holding. Looking forward to hearing comments on the "honour" of a poker player.
