Having played a bit of 7-card stud cash and picked up some good strategy from hand history analysis, reads, articles and videos, I have decided to occassionally play micro stakes Fixed Limit Stud MTTs (6-max). Having played a few, I have noticed that I seem to chip up pretty well then lose most if not all of my stack in a hand where I am favourite but still lose.

One hand comes to mind recently where I had A99 on 3rd street against someone with 33x, I manage to hit runner runner two pair on 4th and 5th having bet all 3 streets, then on 6th he hits a second 7 and decides to re-raise me and I end up all in. He requires 1 of two 7s left or the last 3 (I had a 3from 6th) and he hits a 7 on 7th.

My questions:
1. Are these tournaments profitable due to my perceived edge?
2. What is the variance like in 7-card stud, particularly 6-max fixed limit.
3. My 3rd street calling/raising range is 3 to the flush with no more than 2 outs taken by opponents, 3 high connected cards (early on) 9TJ upwards, medium to high pairs (88-AA) and small pairs with big kickers (22-77, K/A).

Any stories of previous experience are welcome as well as useful 7-card stud tips.

Thanks

James

1) Yes.
2) No clue, limit MTTs probably have a ton of variance though.
3) That sounds reasonable, but third street in a tourney varies a ton. Depending on position and stack sizes your hand selection will vary by a huge margin.

HORSE tournaments tend to have softer fields than just stud hi alone. But the variance is much higher as well, since you have to play BB games.

And fold to paired door cars on 4th. Just given how you're talking about the game I'd guess you're not that great. Get better.

I had two pair when he made this move on me... He was calling me down with a pair of 3s then hit two pair on 6th, which I was still beating and then he hit a 3 outer. What from this description tells you I need to improve? I do feel I need to improve, but judging by that statement you can't tell?

If you feel I need to improve, how about suggestions?

Also, he bet on SIXTH STREET when his door cards paired. He hit two 7s on 5th and 6th, unlikely to have made trips or to have been check/calling with trips from 3rd.
