Tournament is $50,000 GTD.
Payout: 1st $10,000
2nd $6,000
3rd $4,000
4th $3,000
5-6 $2,000
7-8 $1,500
Top 20 at least $500
Top 60 at least $100
Top 400 at least $5

Sorry can't be bothered to write all payouts. Just rough idea.
Anyway all tickets were gained via points earned in July. HOWEVER starting chips are different depending on points earned (10,000 or 5,000 or 2,500).

There are about 500-600 entrants. Half of these are 10,000 chips. Average starting stack is 7,500 chips. I am only starting with 5,000 chips.

So I am asking for strategy considering I am immediately at a disadvantage. Does anyone think it is possible I can still make top 10 or win? I think the beginning will be the toughest with the difference in stack but after an hour or two 5,000 is tiny difference if I can survive that far. BLINDS are 8 minutes (quite fast?). Thanks guys.

At first, the stack difference is paramount. Focus on seeking good hands and some well-calculated post-flop semi-bluffs can help your stack at the start. However, with 8 minute blinds, it is likely that this difference of 5000 chips is not so important from the seventh or eighth blind.

Stephen, I believe that the first half hour of play should be as careful as a hand move in the wrong way can complicate your whole future in the tournament. Playing with double-suited off, one of which is a high card becomes also interesting to see the flop, but extra care is required when we play "in search" of a flush.

About blinds of time, I find it an interesting time. It is not a turbo (5 minutes) and will not delay right to increase levels.

In first hour be patient, and after that play normally

Error must be aggressive as the big stack will have to pay many projects or high pairs , with good cards and aggressive searches

In one post impossible to describe strategy how to play in such a tournament :D, you need experience and long-term training. Good luck in the tournament! :)

Since you initially in the game, try to play aggressive. Even if semi doing then do the middle pair at least not just Bleue. And watch the players even though it is a virtual tournament but agresores and often bluffing players are easy to see. Especially in the early stages of the tournament. Wait a good hand and time goes on and players slivajutsja.

Anything can happen. (of course it is possible to win it,... but maybe not a high % chance of it based on what you're asking in this post).

Sure its an advantage to the players starting out with bigger stacks (10k vs. 5k) but our play should be based more in accordance to the size of the blinds vs. the size of our stack (& others involved in the hand).

So often you'll see players saying stuff like ("I have xx chips but the avg. stack is XX so I need to get more!") ... & other stuff simliar to this mentality. Don't base your play on this as it is fairly insignificant.

Maybe consider reading a book on NLHE Tournament Play.

Not sure what site you are playing on but this sounds like a freeroll.

Keep an eye on the other players early on as, if this is a freeroll, there will be many who sit out. Exploit these players to equalize the stacks.

As the sitters get eliminated, start to play your game.

This is time to change p and become aggressive.

Anyone can make the final table, might as well be you!

Good Luck.
