Hey Guys,

I'm playing a live tournament with a buy-in of around $50 and 200 runners tomorrow. It's in a 2nd Chance format, which means, that you start 5,000 in chips and you can make an add-on of another 5,000 chips any time you want in the first two hours or so.

For instance, if you bust out in the first two hours you get 5,000 chips at your disposal again. You can also choose to make the add-on from the start so you start with 10,000 in chips.

Now my question is, how should I approach this? What is the best possible strategy? I've been giving it some thoughts and lean towards making the add-on from the start and then I'll be extra careful to clash with other 10,000 stacks and only play the absolute top of my range against them. Very tight ABC-style. Taking somewhat of a small ball poker approach and be very pot controlish.

However, I've also thought about not making the add-on right off the bat, but instead observe the table for about half and hour and then make a stand.

But how would you approach it?

Get add-on straight away and don't worry about clashing with other big stacks, most people are fish in live games like that anyway so you can take all their chips in a pot with them.

Yeah ,add on straight way is the best way to approach it and you 'll more than likely find most will be doing the same.

There have been lots of discussions and math done to determine that in any sort of rebuy or 1r1a type tournament whether it be live or online that it's -EV to not rebuy or addon if the option is available. So def rebuy right away and wield your stack to crush some folks.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Forgot to mention that the add-on is included in the initial buy-in btw. So it's not a question of whether or not to add-on it's a question of when to do it. And it seems like I'll do it right away :)

Take the addon immediately and treat the thing like a FO.

You will see a lot of players gambol it up with a half stack, knowing that their second chance is there though.

I have to agree with the general consensus here, take the add on immediately and use it to your advantage. Any edge you can get is better than no edge at all.
Best of luck in the game ;)
