You have about 5500 chips. Tournament with 50 left out of 160 who started. 18 cash out. You don't know the players at the table you just sat at. You are one before the button. Everyone folds. You have 7-2. Button has 17,500 chips. SB and BB are sitting out.

Do you go all in to steal blinds or fold? Would a raise make sense?

Ya 2-7 all in regardless of who folds in front or behind you this is what separates the pros from the joes.

If actions folded to you and the blinds are sitting out.. it doesnt matter how much u raise as long as you don't make a call cause the bb will still be in.

Blinds were 200-400 with ante 50

so about 1000 in the pot

As long as you bet postflop you won't see showdown anyway.

Folding is fine, flatting isn't terrible but minraise would be better and shoving has the worst risk vs reward.

I'd rather develop a table image before making a play like this especially in front of a player that we don't know anything about other than that they have us outchipped 3-1 and also probably notice that the blinds are sitting out as well.
Under 10bb's maybe shove over probably not with no information on the player thats still in behind us.

Fold. Button with 17500 will definitely call 500 there with anything.

It's a definite fold. If you had some kind of hand, that might have a chance of winning, you could try some type of raise. But prepare to be called, it's likely to happen.

why even risk it,there are plenty of other spots to do this. your button will call min raise with anything as mentioned before. your only choice is to fold.

Considering size of the blinds, I would wait for a better hand. Yes you might scare him out with a big raise like that, but if he does call you most likely threw your tournament on a losing hand, you could have waited a little more to push.

Why is it likely that he'll get called? I mean unless we're psychic.

Question:
for those who are a for sure fold here, what hand(s) would you be shoving here in this spot? (14bb's in CO, with SB & BB sitting out & antes in play).

I agree. I would not shove but no reason to think that you get called either. Make a raise or fold.
If he plays back at you, you can get away or shove if you think he is just tyring to re-steal.
If he flats, well then you may be screwed but see what the flop brings you and go from there.
One factor that was not mentioned was the buttons image. tight, loose etc. that would be the deciding factor of fold or raise in my mind. SB and BB may be sitting out next round too which may give you a better spot

We had just joined the table which is why it wasn't mentioned.

Having said that, if I'd seem him play even one hand since we joined the table I'd snap fold here.

I would definitely fold. I wouldn't shove either because his got you covered so I don't think he would fold. Especially you do not know what kind of player the guy is because you just joined the table. Just fold...

Its obvious fold. Dont be greedy like this and risk your tournament on 27... your allin is only 30% of his chips and he can easily assume that you are just stealing in this situation, so his call range will be much MUCH wider then normally.. And you still dont know what is his range normally, he can be very loose player :D

when I started to play poker I made several similar sh1ts :D

Button is gonna call anyway it goes. Fold, why risk all your chips on 2-7. Better cards will be coming.

Why? Why is button calling? Are you guys psychic?
ie. we've just joined table, we have ~15bb's, we open-shove in CO and you guys are 100% certain BTN is calling. What are you possibly basing that assumption on???
